The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully launched two Pralay missiles from the same launcher off the coast of Odisha on Wednesday (December 31, 2025) at around 10:30 am. The Defense Ministry has issued a statement and given information in this regard. The ministry has also shared the picture of the missile launch.

At the same time, regarding the Pralay missile test, the Defense Ministry said that this flight test was conducted as a part of user evaluation tests. The Defense Ministry said that both the missiles followed the prescribed trajectory and met all flight objectives. This was confirmed through tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR) located in Chandipur. At the same time, telemetry systems installed on ships deployed near the target area have also confirmed the terminal incidents.

Can accurately attack the enemy up to 150-500 km range

Pralay is an indigenously developed solid propellant based semi-ballistic tactical missile using state-of-the-art guidance and navigation systems to ensure high accuracy. This missile is also capable of carrying different types of warheads to hit multiple targets, with a range of 150 to 500 kilometers. It will be used to destroy enemy border command and control centres, radar systems, cantonments and airfields.

However, due to the ‘no first use’ policy, the test of Pralay missile is very important. Because this missile helps in filling the gap of conventional and ballistic missiles.

What did the defense experts tell?

All advanced tracking equipment deployed at the range monitored the trajectory of the rocket throughout its flight. This rocket has been developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment, with the support of High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defense Research and Development Laboratory and Research Center Building.

The testing was coordinated by ITR and Proof and Experimental Establishment. Notably, the test fired the LRGR from the Army’s standard Pinaka launcher, proving that it was possible to launch Pinaka rockets with different ranges from a single launcher.

Following the success of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army recently conducted a live firing drill of the indigenous Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launch System at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. This is also being seen as a strong message of India’s military preparedness against Pakistan.

Why is it called ‘Pinaka’?

This rocket system has been named after the mythological bow of Lord Shiva ‘Pinaka’. Due to the multi-barrel design, this system is capable of firing multiple rockets simultaneously. DRDO has designed it, while companies like Tata Advanced Systems and Larsen & Toubro have developed it in public-private partnership model.

Ability to fire 72 rockets in 44 seconds

The specialty of Pinaka is its tremendous firing speed. It can launch 72 rockets in just 44 seconds, which are capable of hitting targets located approximately 60 kilometers away. Its upgraded version Pinaka MK-II ER can hit up to a range of 90 kilometers and a new version is being developed to hit a range of more than 150 kilometers.

Pinaka rockets are equipped with GPS based guided system. According to experts, they can reach a speed of Mach 4.7 i.e. about 5,800 kilometers per hour, which makes them extremely difficult to intercept.

In a war situation, the main function of Pinaka is to cause heavy damage to sensitive areas of the enemy in a short time. In January, the government had approved purchasing ammunition worth Rs 10,200 crore for the Pinaka system. India has already exported it to Armenia and a possible deal with France is also under discussion.

DRDO indigenous weapon-Mark-2 It has been decided to add new advanced capabilities to the program. This step was taken after technical analysis of the missile which was recovered in Punjab in May. The missile is believed to have been fired from a Pakistani jet during Operation Sindoor and had fallen into Indian territory without exploding.

This missile was found in a completely preserved condition in a field near Hoshiarpur, Punjab. This was a rare opportunity for defense scientists to examine an actual alien weapon in depth. Some people familiar with the matter, on the condition of anonymity, said that this was the export version of PL-15 and some of its features are now attracting more attention in India.

What did the investigation reveal?

Investigation has revealed that the missile had many modern technical elements. These are said to include components like advanced radar for long-range target identification and tracking and effective anti-jamming system. There were also indications that the missile would self-destruct (self-destruct) The system was not in place, due to which it was recovered without exploding. This missile was probably fired from JF-17 or J-10C aircraft of Pakistan Air Force, but for some reason it did not hit its target and fell within about 100 km.

DRDO submitted report

DRDO has submitted its collective technical report to the Defense Ministry. On the basis of the information received in the report, now the process of necessary improvements and inclusion of new technologies in the country’s indigenous missile development program is being expedited. Experts say that the input from the study of the recovered missile will make it possible to improve the range-sensing, radar capability and electronic security of Indian systems.

Is India self-reliant in making drone engines?

India is constantly trying to reduce its dependence on foreign drone parts. The government has started the Production Link Incentive Scheme to be self-reliant. Its aim is to transform India into a global drone hub by 2030. India amca fighter jet: Like America, Russia and China, India also dreams of making its own fifth generation stealth fighter. India has also taken a big step in this direction. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) had taken out the Expression of Interest (EOI) by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project, for which the dedeline of bidding was 30 September, 2025.

Two companies will be shortlist

Seven big companies like HAL and L&T came forward to make it in partnership with DRDO. These included Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Adani Defense. Any two of the seven companies bidding in the race to make stealth fighter will be selected. They will get Rs 15,000 crore to make five models of AMCA before getting manufacturing rights.

How long will the pride of the Indian Air Force be increased?

According to the report by news agency ANI, A. Shivathanu Pillai -led committee will evaluate these bids. After this, the report will be submitted to the Defense Ministry, after which the decision will be taken to take the command of AMCA. India wants to upgrade and modern, after the recent tension with Pakistan and China, armed with nuclear weapons. In April, India made a deal of Rs 63,000 crore to buy 26 Rafale-Am fighter jets from France’s Dassault Aviation. Their supply is to be known till 2031, which will replace the old Russian MiG 29K aircraft. The Air Force already has 36 Rafale-C fighter jets.

There will be only one seat to sit in India’s first fifth generation stealth fighter and it will have two engines. Along with advanced stealth coatings, it will have a capacity of multi-roll weapon carriage, which will compete with American and Russian aircraft such as F-22, F-35 and SU-57. It will be able to fly to a height of 55,000 feet.

The capacity of AMCA’s internal weapon system will be 1500 kg and external bay capacity will be 5,500 kg. The weight of this twin-engine aircraft will be around 25 tonnes and its fuel tank will have a capacity of 6.5 tonnes. France and DRDO have been in talks in the last two years for such an agreement on the engine of stealth fighter jet, but the government has now become more active about this conversation.
