This is done because the ball tracked in DRS is not the actual ball but an estimate which is made from camera data. In such a situation, it is also said that ball tracking is also not 100 percent accurate. To defend this error, the third umpire gives the decision only if more than 50 percent of the ball is hit, otherwise it is considered to be the decision of the onfield umpire.
