TV-DTH News: These days the news of TV being shut down is very much discussed on social media. Actually, a post is going viral in which it is being claimed that Modi government is going to shut down 11 crore TVs soon and TV broadcasts are going to become very expensive. Let us understand from here what is the whole matter and what and how much truth is there behind this whole matter.

What is the whole matter?
It is written in the post going viral that ‘One decision of Modi government and 11 crore TVs will be closed. Already 1 crore TVs have been switched off due to mobile phones. The TV industry is in great danger, which means the government has punished it. The Ministry of Information Broadcasting has presented the draft of new rules on June 12. There will be same rules for TV broadcast and telecom companies. With similar rules, the government will get huge license fees.

It is also written in this post that due to this TV broadcast will become very expensive. Service providers and cable operators will increase their charges by 4 to 6 times. DTH and cable TV will end. Not only will TVs be switched off in one stroke, the jobs of lakhs of people will also be lost in one stroke. The money-hungry government is bent on destroying the country.

What is the truth?
PIB has clearly stated on its social media handle that this post is false and the Central Government has not made any such rule which would increase the cost of TV subscription by 4 to 6 times or stop TV services in the country.

Also, PIB wrote that MIB has released the draft of Telecommunications (Television, Radio and Related Services) Rules, 2026, on which opinions are being sought from the public and concerned people till July 27, 2026. There is no provision to increase any kind of fees in the draft rules. Also, the purpose of these rules is to bring together the different guidelines issued for TV and radio services. Their objective is to make the existing system simple and uniform, so that work can be done easily in the TV and radio broadcasting sector.
