The process of admission in undergraduate courses at Delhi University (DU) is now moving towards the final round. The university has released its second seat allotment list for the academic session 2025-26. In this list, those students who could not get their favorite colleges and courses in the first phase.

Allocation of 24 thousand seats

In this phase, DU has allocated 24,843 seats against about 8,000 vacant seats. DU’s strategy is that no seats in colleges remain vacant in later rounds, so more students are being allotted in the initial stages. According to DU’s admission Dean Professor Heten Gandhi, now additional seats will not be allocated in the coming rounds.

So far, more than 87 thousand seats have been distributed

A total of 87,335 seats have been allotted so far, while DU has a total of 71,624 seats available. This figure is freeze, upgraded and new allocations. The special thing is that out of the students who had opted for “upgrade” in the first round, 27,314 students have now got a college or course of their choice. At the same time, 17,922 students have freeze their seat, that is, they will not seek any other option.

What to do students ahead?

Students can accept their seat by 30 July.
Admission for admission from the college can be given till 31 July.
Students can confirm their admission by depositing fees by 4:59 pm on August 1, 4:59 pm.
Classes of the first semester will also start from August 1.

Now the chance of mid -entry and third round will come

After the second round process, DU will release a new list of vacant seats. After this, students will be able to organize their college/course priorities again. Also, the option of mid -entry will also open. Students who have not yet enrolled in any college, they will be able to participate in the admission process using this option.

The DU administration recommends that the students keep logging on to the admission.uod.ac.in portal from time to time and do not miss any updates. The next few days are very important for the students because they will decide whether they will be able to start studying in their favorite university.

In the first round of admission season 2025 in Delhi University (DU), the choice of students has shocked everyone. While BCom (Honors) is at the top with 48,336 First Preference Applications as usual, BSC (Hons) Joology has made a tremendous jump and made it to the third position.

According to reports, this year, 12,722 students have described this course as their first choice, which is a record in itself. Even more interesting is that Zoology has traditionally surpassed the popular English (Hons).

BA Hons Political Science was second with 15,295 First Choice Applications. Last year, the top three included BCom (H), English (H) and Political Science (H), but this year the entry of Zoology changed the game.

Why did the demand of zoology increase?

Prof. Head of DU’s Department of Zoology, Prof. According to Rita Singh, this change has not come suddenly. Kovid epidemic has changed the way of thinking of students. In Life Sciences, all the important aspects like immunity, vaccine, genetics, PCR are related to Zoology. During the epidemic, the students realized that the future of this field is very strong.

Attractions became a chance of research in NEP

Under the new education policy (NEP), there has also been an increase in interest in zoology due to the option of research project in the fourth year. Pro. Singh said that now it is no longer limited to the biodiversity of animals. Students are now also learning how physiology connects with environmental science, and how biotechnology, medicine and zoology have mutual relations.

Changes are seen in students’ thinking

A student of the final year of BSC (Honors) Zoology said that my nature and attachment to fauna had started with books, which deepened by watching videos related to environment on YouTube. I have always been a fan of people who raise their voice for animals. I like field work a lot because I think there should be both meaning and joy in work.

The process of admission to undergraduate courses at Delhi University has also been quite interesting this year. In the first round itself, the students showed tremendous enthusiasm. The university had allotted 93,166 seats in the first round, out of which about 86% of the seats were accepted by the students. On Monday, the last date to accept seat was, while on Tuesday, colleges were to verify documents and approve the admission.

According to reports, till Monday evening, 31,088 files were approved by the college principals, and 17,702 students had confirmed their seat by paying fees. Now the students who have got the seat, they had to pay the fees by 23 July 2025, only then their admission will be considered the final.

Seats more, yet not seen interest at 13 thousand

Delhi University has about 71,000 seats, but this time about 93 thousand seats were allotted in the first round, so that more and more students could get a chance. Despite this, students did not show interest in more than 13,000 seats. The reason for this may be that they did not get a favorite college or course.

The option of ‘upgrade’ also, you can get better college

DU’s Admission Branch had asked the students who are not fully satisfied with their received seat, to fill the option of ‘upgrade’. If someone has received a college or course at the moment, but he wants a change in it, then by accepting the seat and choosing the ‘upgrade’ option, he can get a better option in the next round.

Cutoff balance strategy

DU has allotted 30% more seats in General, OBC and EWS category in the first round this year and 50% more seats in SC-ST category. The purpose of this is that when some students change college or courses in the second round, then the balance of seats should be maintained.

Some major colleges are expected to fill 70% seats in the first round, as the rate of withdrawal of admission by students in these colleges is very low. Such colleges are usually in high demand.

At present, admissions are going on in all the universities across the country. Also, the admission process in Delhi University has started. Thousands of students are reaching here from all over the country for admission in the university. But in this process, many times students have to face lack of necessary information and problems with the intricacies of the system. To make these problems easier, Aam Aadmi Party’s student organization Asap (AISAAP) has started a new initiative.

Essep has installed admission help desk outside DU’s Arts Faculty, where students enrolled in UG and PG can get the answer to any question. The organization has also issued Zone War Helpline Numbers, so that students from far and wide can also seek help. Esap member Ishana Gupta said that the help desk for the convenience of the students will be active from morning to evening and efforts are being made to reach every student through social media.

Every student will get support

Ishana Gupta said that the purpose of the esp is not only politics, but the support system of the students is to be made. He said that many students are financially weak and lagged behind due to lack of proper guidance. In such a situation, the effort of the essence is to get all the necessary information on time, so that they can be admitted without any interruption.

He told that in the incident of Chaudhary Charan Singh University Haryana, the Asap had helped the students on the spot and also gave food and financial assistance. Essap is now working with the same service spirit in DU.

Target on “Reel Politics”

Essap member Deepak Bansal targeted ABVP and NSUI over student politics in DU. He said that both these organizations are now doing politics by making reel and have been away from the real problems of the students. Giving an example of an incident, he said that the scripted incident of locking the ABVP in the DUSU office and then the NSUI with a hammer has proved that their aim is just a show.

Demand for basic facilities

Deepak Bansal demanded the DU administration that cold water coolers, clean hostel mess, fire safety systems, and better infrastructure should be ensured in all colleges. He also said that the unnecessary increase in hostels and university fees should be stopped.

Education should be free, system transparent

Essap says that just as the Kejriwal government in Delhi improves the infrastructure of schools, similarly education should be made free and convenient in government universities like DU. If their demands are not taken care of, then the essap will soon give a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor and will also perform if needed.
