Law Faculty students of Delhi University have got a big relief. The examination to be held on 28th May 2026 on the occasion of Bakrid i.e. Eid-ul-Zuha will now be conducted after 4th July. A hearing in this matter was held in Delhi High Court, where the university informed the court about re-conducting the examination.

The matter came to light when a student of the Law Faculty filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the decision to conduct the examination on May 28. The student said that Bakrid holiday has been declared on May 28 by the Central Government, yet holding the examination on the same day is injustice to the students.

The hearing of this case took place in the court of Justice Jasmeet Singh. During the hearing, Delhi University said that the examination for the students who want to participate in the Bakrid festival will be conducted later.

Now when will the exam be held?

Delhi University told the court that the examination to be held on May 28 will now be conducted after July 4, 2026. However, the new date has not been announced yet. The university said that the concerned students will be informed about the new exam date through email. The court also directed that the new exam date should be sent to the students at least a week in advance so that they can get adequate time to prepare.

Students raised the issue of fundamental rights

The petition said that conducting the examination on a religious festival is against the fundamental rights given in the Constitution. The students argued that they were being forced to choose between exams and religious festivals. Citing Articles 14, 21 and 25 of the Constitution, it was said that all students should get equal opportunities and religious freedom.

There was controversy about which exam

This matter was related to the examination of the subject “Public Policy and Administration” of the sixth semester of the Integrated Law course. This examination was scheduled on May 28, but after the Bakrid holiday was declared, the students protested against it. The university has said that students who will not be able to appear in the examination due to Bakrid will have to inform the Dean of the Faculty of Law by sending an email. After this, information about the new exam date will be sent to them separately.
