After 12th, the biggest question before every student is where to pursue further studies. Many students of the country dream of taking admission in big institutions like Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). But it is very important to know which of these three institutes is better for which career.

Success doesn’t come from college alone
It is important to understand that merely getting admission in a big name college does not lead to success. Success comes through hard work, skill, dedication and right direction. Therefore, choose any university keeping in mind your interest, ability and future goals. Let us know which is the better option for whom.

Why is IIT considered a great option?

If a student is interested in engineering, technology, computer science, artificial intelligence or research, then IIT is considered to be the best option. The IIT institutes of the country are famous for their level of education, modern labs and excellent placements. Students studying from here get job opportunities in big companies in the country and abroad.

To get admission in IIT, one has to pass a difficult examination like JEE. Every year lakhs of students take part in it, but success is achieved only by those who work hard continuously. If your dream is to make a big career in technical field, then IIT can be the right path.

For which students is JNU better?

If a student is interested in political science, history, sociology, language, international relations or research, then JNU is a strong option. This university is known for its academic environment and in-depth study. Many students also prepare for UPSC and other competitive examinations here.

The study environment in JNU is considered serious and knowledge based. This can prove to be a good platform for students who want to make a career in teaching, administrative service, research or social fields.

Also read – UPSSSC Vacancy: Good news for 12th pass youth, recruitment process for 700+ posts in UP will start soon.

Why is DU the most balanced option?

Delhi University i.e. DU is a great option for those students who want to do commerce, arts, science, management or general graduation. Many colleges of DU are included among the top colleges of the country. Along with studies, there are good opportunities for internship, debate, theatre, sports and networking here.

Commerce students can progress in fields like B.Com, Economics, CA, MBA. There are good courses available here for Arts and Science students too. The advantage of studying in Delhi is that students get more opportunities for competitive exams and jobs.

Which option is right for which goal?

If your aim is engineering and high package job, then IIT is a better option. If you want to make a career in UPSC, research or social subjects, then JNU is right. At the same time, if you want to keep many career options open and want a balanced college life, then DU is considered a good option.

This time the literature festival started in a special way in Delhi University. The entire six verses of ‘Vande Mataram’ were sung in the inaugural session. This singing, which lasted for about 3 minutes and 10 seconds, became the main attraction of the program. Vice-Chancellor Prof. present on the stage. Yogesh Singh, Sanskriti Parishad officials, teachers and a large number of students witnessed this moment. This was the first time that ‘Vande Mataram’ was presented collectively with its full six verses in a major event of the university.

In fact, just a day before, the Central Government had issued new guidelines regarding ‘Vande Mataram’. The order of the Home Ministry states that now ‘Vande Mataram’ will be compulsorily sung or played in all government programs, schools and formal events. The most important thing is that the entire six verses of the song will be sung. DU presented the complete song in the literature festival following these new rules. This gave a clear indication that now this rule will be strictly implemented.

What is the deadline for implementation?

According to the order of the Home Ministry, this rule will be considered applicable with immediate effect. That is, from the day the order is issued, it will have to be adopted in all government institutions and programs. Now it will be mandatory to sing or play six verses of ‘Vande Mataram’ in schools, colleges and other government events. However, this rule will not apply during movies in cinema halls. The system will remain there as before.

‘Vande Mataram’ will be held after the national anthem.

Under the new rules, in government programs, the first national anthem will be ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and immediately after that ‘Vande Mataram’ will be sung or played. During both, everyone will have to stand and pay respect.

This song will also be played in the programs of the President and the Governor. This will be followed before and after his arrival, departure and speech. Now this song will be mandatory even in big civil honor ceremonies like Padma Awards.

Why is this decision special?

‘Vande Mataram’ is an important song related to India’s independence movement. It was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875 and later it was published in his novel ‘Anandamath’. The image of Mother India has been presented with respect in the song.

In 1937, Congress officially adopted only its first two verses. Due to mention of goddess form in some verses, all the six verses were not adopted at that time. Now the government has decided that the song will be presented in its original form, with the entire six verses.

Taking admission in Delhi University is the dream of lakhs of students and in such a situation the reservation system proves to be very helpful for them. Many times students are not able to understand how much reservation is given to which category in DU. University of Delhi strictly follows the reservation policies of the Central Government.

If a student wants to take admission in EWS, OBC, SC or ST quota, then he/she must have a valid certificate which can be issued only by the designated authorities. These include District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Collector, Deputy Commissioner, Revenue Officers ranked above Tehsildar and Sub-Divisional Officers of the concerned area. Apart from these, certificates issued by any other authority will not be considered valid.

things to note

The name, category, district and state of the caste should be clearly mentioned in the SC/ST or OBC certificate and it should also be written that the caste is accepted in the list of the Government of India. If a student does not have an updated certificate at the time of application, he can upload his application slip. But it is necessary to show the original and latest certificate at the time of admission.

Extra time will not be given under any circumstances. If a student belongs to SC/ST/OBC/EWS but wants to take admission under any other category like PwBD or CW, then he will have to fulfill the eligibility of that category also. At the same time, if a student, despite belonging to the reserved category, gets selected on merit in the general list, then he is not counted among the reserved seats.

How much reservation for whom?

There is 22.5% reservation of total seats for SC/ST students – 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST. Pass marks are considered sufficient for SC/ST students as minimum eligibility. If the admission is based on entrance test, then they will have to appear for the test, but their separate merit list will be prepared. A relaxation of 5% is given in the cut-off and if seats still remain vacant, further relaxation can be given as per need. SC seats can be given to ST and ST seats can be given to SC, but if the seats still remain vacant, then they are left vacant.

There is 27% reservation in total seats for OBC students. They get 10% relaxation in eligibility marks as compared to general category. But the OBC certificate should be of non-creamy layer and he should belong to the caste included in the list of the Central Government. If a student does not have the latest non-creamy layer certificate at the time of registration, he/she can upload the old certificate or application slip, but the latest year certificate is required to be shown at the time of admission.

10% seats in DU are reserved for EWS category. These are considered on the basis of rules set by the Central Government and eligibility is decided according to those guidelines. For EWS also, valid certificate issued by the prescribed authorities is necessary.

The country’s capital Delhi was once again put to shame when a student of Delhi University was attacked with acid in broad daylight. This incident took place on Sunday (26 October) morning near Lakshmibai College in Ashok Vihar area, where the student was going for her extra classes.

Suddenly a bike rider threw acid on him. The student tried to save herself. His face was saved, but both his hands were badly burnt.

The one who threw acid was known to the student

Passersby immediately took him to the hospital. First he was taken to Deepchand Bandhu Hospital and later admitted to RML Hospital due to severe burns. According to doctors, the condition of the student is stable and the injuries are not life threatening.

Police investigation has revealed that the main accused was an acquaintance of the student. The accused Jitendra, who lives in Mukundpur area, used to stalk the student. About a month ago, there was a fight between the two over some issue, after which Jitendra started harassing her.

It is claimed that he along with two of his friends committed this crime on Sunday. According to the police, Ishaan gave the bottle to Armaan and he threw the acid.

Questions on women’s safety in Delhi

After the attack, the three accused fled from the spot. However, the police have identified him on the basis of nearby CCTV footage and several teams are conducting raids in search of him. This incident has once again raised serious questions on the safety of women in Delhi.

Protest by NSUI and SFI

Organizations active in student politics of Delhi University have strongly condemned this incident. National Students Union of India (NSUI) national president Varun Chaudhary said, “Acid was thrown on a Delhi University student in broad daylight, this is not just a crime but a proof of the failure of governance. If the BJP government and Delhi Police had really given priority to women’s safety, such incidents would have stopped. The culprits should be arrested immediately and they should be given strict punishment.”

Varun Chaudhary further said that NSUI stands with the victim and her family and the organization will continue to raise its voice until justice is provided.

SFI raised questions on the working style of police

At the same time, Students Federation of India (SFI), Delhi University unit also issued a statement saying that this incident is not just a crime but a symbol of ‘administrative insensitivity and government failure’. The organization said, “It is shocking that such an attack could happen in broad daylight, in front of a women’s college in the capital. The Delhi government and the police have repeatedly failed in such cases. Unless the culprits are given stringent punishment and security is not increased around college campuses, such incidents will continue.”

SFI also said, “In the past years, acid-related incidents were also reported near Miranda House, but concrete steps were never taken. This negligence has now become a threat to women.”

ABVP put this demand before the administration

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has described this incident as extremely unfortunate and condemnable and has demanded strict action from the administration against the culprits who carried out this attack.

ABVP says that such incidents in and around the university campus are a matter of serious concern from the safety point of view of girl students. ABVP has demanded from the university administration that such incidents should not be repeated, for this security arrangements should be strictly implemented around the campus, the number of CCTV cameras should be increased and police patrolling should be made more active.

Dissatisfaction among university students

Delhi Police has registered an FIR in the matter and said that action will be taken against the criminals under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). According to police officials, several teams have been sent to arrest the accused and technical surveillance has been increased.

After this attack, students protested in colleges and asked ‘How safe are the daughters of Delhi?’ As if the questions started echoing again. Seeing the attacks on women in the capital, people’s anger is clearly visible, because even after repeated such cases, the security situation is not changing.

A big change is being seen among the students in Delhi University (DU) this year. After the introduction of the new four-year undergraduate degree i.e. Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP), a large number of students are now continuing their studies till the fourth year. The interesting thing is that the largest number of them are students of Humanities i.e. Arts Faculty.

In central and renowned colleges like Miranda House, Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) and Hindu College, about 40 percent students have decided to continue for the fourth year. Most of these students are from subjects like Political Science, History, Psychology, Hindi and English.

According to Delhi University administration, overall about 30 percent undergraduate students have enrolled for the fourth year. However, this figure is not the same in all colleges. The interest of students is highest in colleges located in central areas, while in colleges located on the outskirts this number ranges between 15 to 27 percent.

Predominance of these topics

University officials say that student participation is highest in humanities and social science subjects, while this number is less in science courses. The reason is that many science students go for post graduation in institutions like IITs or IISERs, where they get the opportunity to gain expertise directly.

Delhi University recently held a meeting with colleges to understand how smoothly the new four-year course is being implemented. Some colleges reported that very few students have enrolled for the fourth year in some subjects, posing academic and administrative challenges. The university has advised in such cases that the colleges should create a cluster system, that is, students of the same subject should be given the facility to take joint classes with the students of other colleges.

this is hope

The DU administration hopes that student participation will increase in the times to come as they realize the long-term benefits of this course. This trend is especially clearly visible in popular colleges. In Miranda House, about 30 percent students are continuing till the fourth year, in Hindu College about 38 percent students and in Lady Shri Ram College, about 40 percent students are continuing till the fourth year.

This number is much less in off-campus colleges. Principals say that the reason for this is the reputation of the college, availability of resources and distance from the centre. However, some principals are also seeing this as a positive aspect. He says that small batches will give them a chance to gradually understand this new system and implement it better in future. At the same time, faculty members say that the students who remain till the fourth year mainly fall into two categories. One, who could not get admission in their desired postgraduate course and second, those who are preparing for research or competitive exams.

The process of admission in Graduate programs in Delhi University (DU) has still not been completed. A large number of seats have remained vacant, especially in the reserved category. To fill them, the university has allocated seat through spot round on Thursday.

How many students got a chance?

A total of 29,819 students applied in this round. Of these, 7,908 students have been allotted seats. Now students will have to accept this seat by 5 pm on August 29. If a student does not accept this seat, then his name will be excluded from the admission process.

The DU administration has made it clear that the seat allotted in this round will be considered final. This means that students will not get the option of upgrade anymore nor will they be able to withdraw the admission.

Who got the chance?

In this spot round, only those students have been given a chance, who could not get admission in any college or course from July to 24 August. Students who have already been admitted were not included in this process.

It was said by the university that the allocation of colleges and courses has been done on the basis of priority of students and vacant seats. It is clear that more than 8,000 seats are still vacant in DU graduate courses. Among them, the general category seats are less, while the reserved category seats are left in large numbers.

How long will the fee have to be deposited?

Students who have been allotted seats will have to accept the seat by August 29. After this, it will be mandatory to pay the fees by 5 pm on August 30. The admission of students who do not pay the fees on time will be automatically canceled.

In dashboard freeze mode

DU has told that this will be the last chance for the students who have got seats after this round. The dashboard of the students who have already been admitted will go on freeze mode. That is, they will not be able to enroll in a new seat by canceling their earlier admission.

Why the seats remained vacant?

Experts believe that DU seats remained vacant this year for several reasons. Some students moved to abroad and private universities, while some preferred to enroll in other central universities. At the same time, more seats of reserved category remained vacant because not adequate applications were not received.
ALSO READ: MPESB Paramedical Recruitment 2025: Application date increased, now you can apply till 30 August

There is still a ray of hope for the students dreaming of studying in Delhi University. The chance of admission to the Graduate Program (UG Courses) for the academic session 2025-26 is available in some colleges. The DU administration on Monday released the list of vacant seats in colleges for spot round admission.

According to the information received by DU, this time the vacant seats are mostly left in courses like Science, Punjabi, Sanskrit and BCom. These include general to reserved category seats. The application process for the spot round has started and students can apply by 27 August.

Seat allocation will be done on August 28

This is considered to be the last chance to get admission in DU graduate course. The administration hopes that all the remaining seats will be filled in this round. The allocation of seats under the spot round will be done on August 28. Students will have to accept the seat by August 29 and after that the fees will have to be deposited by 30 August.

The biggest condition of this round is that neither the seat will be upgraded nor the admission can be withdrawn. That is, this time the seat that will be found will be final. It has also been clarified that only those students can participate in it, who have not been able to get admission in any college till August 24.
