Team India recently faced 1-2 defeat in the 3-match ODI series against England. The very next day i.e. on 20th July (Monday), the West Zone team for the upcoming 2026 Duleep Trophy was announced. Indian batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad was given the captaincy of West Zone. Whereas left arm all-rounder Shams Mulani was made the vice-captain.

The team was announced after the Zonal Selection Committee meeting. The tournament will be played between 23 August and 10 September. Let us tell you that last year, India’s fast bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur was seen commanding the West Zone. The team captained by Shardul had reached the semi-finals. Shardul is in the team this time also.

Gaikwad captains Chennai Super Kings in IPL. Now it will be interesting to see how the team performs under the captaincy of Gaikwad. 6 players have also been selected as reserves in the team.

Many star players have been given a chance in the team. Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan and Urvil Patel have got a chance in the 15-member squad. Apart from Urvil, Harvik Desai has also been included as wicketkeeper.

In the bowling department, vice-captain Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian and Siddharth Desai will play the role of spinners. Stars like Shardul Thakur and Tushardesh Pandey are included as fast bowlers. Apart from this, fast bowler Mukesh Chaudhary is also a part of the team.
