Ethanol Policy: New steps are continuously being taken towards promoting ethanol blended fuel in the country. Recently the discussion regarding E85 fuel and Flex Fuel vehicles has intensified. After this, questions started arising in the minds of many E20 vehicle owners whether their vehicles will become old in future or they will have to buy a vehicle with new technology. Meanwhile, the Petroleum Minister has given important information while clarifying the situation on this subject.

The government says that the introduction of E85 fuel does not mean that the usefulness of E20 vehicles will end. Both types of technologies will work according to different needs. So those who have bought an E20 compatible car or bike in recent years do not need to worry. The current focus of the government is to increase the use of ethanol and reduce dependence on fuel imports.

What is the difference between E20 and E85, understand in simple language

E20 and E85 are both ethanol blended fuels, but the amount of ethanol in both is different. E20 contains 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol. Whereas the ethanol content in E85 is up to 85 percent. Vehicles running on E20 fuel are designed accordingly, while using E85 requires a vehicle with special Flex Fuel technology.

This means that E20 vehicles cannot run directly on E85 fuel. For this reason, the government and automobile companies are developing different vehicles for different technologies. The use of E20 vehicles will continue as before and the availability of fuel for them will also remain. Therefore, existing vehicle owners should not worry about any changes or additional expenses.

What did the government say and what will happen next?

The Petroleum Minister has clarified that the purpose of promoting E85 fuel is not to replace E20 vehicles. The government wants to increase the use of ethanol based fuel in a phased manner. E20 vehicles are present in large numbers in the country and will continue to be used in the coming years. On the other hand, vehicles with Flex Fuel technology will be available in the market as an additional option.

This will provide the customers the facility to choose the vehicle as per their need and budget. The government believes that increased use of ethanol will reduce the import of crude oil and will also benefit the environment. In such a situation, both E20 and E85 technologies will progress together in the future. Therefore, there is nothing to worry about for E20 vehicle owners at the moment and their vehicles will remain completely useful.
