Constant severe itching is very common in kidney problems. When waste like urea increases in the body, the nerves of the skin get affected, which increases itching. About 56 percent of CKD patients face this problem and it is often associated with increased phosphorus and PTH levels. About 43 percent of CKD patients also suffer from fungal or bacterial infections of the skin. Using mild, fragrance-free soap and wiping the skin gently instead of rubbing can reduce irritation and pain. If the rash increases, becomes painful or starts pus, consult a doctor immediately.
