This crop can grow in both cold and mild warm environments and can tolerate temperatures ranging from 5 degrees to 35 degrees Celsius, but the best temperature for it is considered to be 20 to 25 degrees. The best yield is obtained in loamy soil, because moisture and nutrients remain balanced in it. Apart from this, the pH level of soil should be between 5 to 7. Also, it is important to have good drainage arrangements in the field, because stagnation of water can cause damage to the plants. Cultivating walnuts in sandy, very hard or highly alkaline soil is not considered appropriate.

Walnut plant does not produce immediately after planting, rather it takes about 4 years to produce fruits.
