Myanmar earthquake: A terrible earthquake occurred in Myanmar on 28 March 2025. This earthquake was the most devastating earthquake in the history of Myanmar. Since the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in the Mandle region, 112 tremors have been felt so far, which has ranged from 2.8 to 7.5. According to the Department of Measures and Hydrology of Myanmar, the death toll in the earthquake has increased to 3,649, while 5,018 people are injured and 145 are missing.

According to ‘The Mirror’, the earthquake has also caused serious damage to the country’s mobile communication system. A total of 6,730 communication stations were damaged due to the earthquake, out of which 5,999 have been repaired. International organizations like India, United Nations, America and European Union have sent relief and rescue teams, medical teams and necessary resources to help Myanmar. UNESCO has also indicated help.

Ata Thingan Festival of Myanmar
The tragedy of the earthquake has also affected Myanmar’s most prominent traditional festival ‘Ata Thingayan Festival’. This festival is celebrated on a large scale every year from 13 to 16 April. However, this time music, dance and other programs related to the festival have been canceled. The Yangon City Development Committee has ordered the suspension of all the public pavilions and programs of the city. The traditional New Year of Myanmar, which is on 17 April, has been asked to celebrate it with peace.

Communication, health and services stalled
Due to the earthquake, 15 post offices in Myanmar had to be temporarily closed, although they are being slowly opened from 31 March. Health services, water supply and power system have been severely affected. Food and drinking water crisis is deepening in rural areas.

Myanmar Earthquake Latest Update: A 26 -year -old hotel worker was rescued from the rubble of a collapsed hotel building on Wednesday in NAPIDO, Myanmar. According to the information team of the State Administration Council, the person was rescued five days after the devastating earthquake of 7.7 magnitude in the country.

People are still trapped in debris

The information team said that two people were stranded in the debris. Myanmar Fire Services Department and Turkish rescue teams took out a person safely. The campaign at the hotel started at around 3:00 pm local time on Tuesday and the person was rescued at around 00:30 am on Wednesday. According to the news agency Xinhua, efforts are on to find and save the rest of the stranded people.

Thousands died due to earthquake

The death toll in the earthquake increased to 2,719, around 4,521 people were injured and 441 are still missing. Prime Minister Min Aung Having gave this information. Meanwhile, Ang Having, head of Junta, Myanmar, dismissed the ceasefire proposals of ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) and announced to continue military operations. Hlying said on Tuesday, “Some ethnic armed groups are not actively involved in the fight, but they are gathering and training for the preparation of the attacks. Since it is a form of aggression, the army will continue the necessary defense campaign.”

Human response became more complicated

According to a report by Myanmar Now, at a time when global attention focuses on sending earthquake destruction and human assistance, the Myanmar army has continued its attacks against resistant groups across the country. Expressing concern over the attacks, the US -based AdvocC Group Human Rights Watch said on Tuesday that the military government of Myanmar should allow immediate, uninterrupted access to human assistance to earthquake victims and lift the restrictions obstructing emergency response.

According to the advocacy group, since the earthquake in the area on March 28, the army launched aerial attacks and limited the internet access to seriously affected areas, making human reaction more complicated.
