In today’s time, heart attack has become a serious and rapidly growing problem, people often think that heart attack comes suddenly, but the truth is that our body starts giving its signs several weeks in advance, often taking these symptoms lightly or ignoring them leads to a big problem. According to global estimates, heart disease still remains the biggest killer disease; heart-related diseases are the biggest cause of death in the world, causing about 1.8 crore deaths every year.

So can your body really give you warning weeks before a heart attack? In many cases, yes. Dr Vivek Kumar, head of the Structural Heart Programme, says symptoms may appear days or even weeks in advance, but they are not always severe, it could be a strange kind of fatigue that does not go away, or a slight pressure in the chest that comes and goes. Also, some people feel short of breath while doing daily tasks, and there are some who do not feel anything.

What do experts say?

According to health experts in the report, the body gives some warning signals before a heart attack, but people ignore them considering them as normal fatigue or gas, which can be dangerous in the future. Therefore, if the body is giving any signal again and again, then it is not right to take it lightly and should immediately contact the doctor.

Early symptoms, which people ignore

There are some symptoms of a heart attack that may appear several days or weeks before the actual attack. Dr. Vineet Bhatia, Director of Interventional Cardiology, explains that the initial symptoms mostly include mild chest pain or pressure, unusual fatigue, difficulty in breathing, discomfort like indigestion and pain spreading to the jaw, neck or back. Apart from this, difficulty in breathing, fast or irregular heartbeat and dizziness are an early sign, many patients later say that they ignored the fatigue or mistook the chest discomfort for gas. Had understood and ignored it. Which later becomes the cause of pain, nose and heart attack.

Symptoms may be different in women

Dr. Vivek Kumar explains that the symptoms can be different in men and women, while chest pain is the most common symptom in men, whereas in women, instead of severe chest pain, problems like fatigue, nausea, or breathlessness are seen more, which is why it becomes a little more difficult to recognize the risk of heart attack in women.

Tests are not always correct

It is possible that routine test results may be negative, such as an ECG showing no problems with heart rhythm, and blood test results being normal. The report also notes that even routine medical tests may miss the risk of a heart attack, hidden risks can arise unexpectedly and lead to an immediate heart attack, so never ignore any symptoms regardless of the initial test results.

Technology can also help

Wearable smartwatches and health tracking devices are able to track your heart rate and detect irregularities, which helps in monitoring the condition of your heart, oxygen levels and other signals. However, these devices are not able to prevent heart attacks, but can be helpful in detecting early changes, so that a doctor can be consulted in time.

What should you do?

If a person experiences chest discomfort for more than a few minutes or difficulty breathing, excessive sweating, or these symptoms occur repeatedly, they should immediately seek help from a doctor. The difficult thing is that these symptoms do not always seem urgent, but if something seems wrong and happens again and again, it is important to pay attention, timely treatment can prevent a major problem.
