There is an atmosphere of happiness in the homes of thousands of students as soon as the results of JEE Advanced 2026, which is counted among the toughest entrance examinations in the country, are out. After months of hard work, coaching, mock tests and continuous study, 56,880 students have cleared the JEE Advanced hurdle. But after passing the exam, the real battle begins, where many students are competing for every seat.

This year more than 17 lakh students participated in JEE Main. This is considered to be the biggest figure till date. Of these, only about 2.5 lakh students got a chance to appear for JEE Advanced. After this, about 1.80 lakh students took the JEE Advanced exam.

Out of these lakhs of candidates, only 56,880 students could pass the examination. After the declaration of JEE Advanced results, all the successful candidates are now eyeing JoSAA counselling. It will be decided here which student will get which IIT and which branch.

How many seats are there?

Altogether, about 18 thousand seats are available in the 23 IITs of the country. These include B.Tech, dual degree and other engineering courses. On the other hand, the number of students passing JEE Advanced is approximately 57 thousand. If we look at the figures, on an average more than three candidates are claiming for one seat. This is the reason that even after qualifying, it is not possible for every student to get a seat in IIT.

Competition more tough in top IITs

Almost every student aspires to get admission in institutes like IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur. Whereas branches like Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science are in highest demand.

Which IITs have the most seats?

IIT Kharagpur is considered to be at the forefront in terms of number of seats. After this come the names of IIT (BHU) Varanasi, IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee. There are more seats in these institutes, but here also the demand remains very high.

Girls also showed strong presence

This year, more than 10 thousand girl students are among the successful candidates in JEE Advanced. In the last few years, arrangements for special seats have been made to increase the participation of girls in IITs, the positive effect of which is visible.

One mistake in counseling can prove costly

After the result, now the most important stage is counselling. Many times even students with good ranks lose better options due to wrong choice filling or haste.
