Limited health care, high rates of anemia and other diseases, and poor sanitation in rural areas in Pakistan reduce development outcomes. Frequent illness in childhood is one of the most common causes of short height.

When girls get married and become mothers before their bodies are fully developed, their own development stops prematurely. India has also had to grapple with this problem.
