‘Illegal sacrifice will not tolerate’
Underlining the government’s stance, Development Minister Kapil Mishra said, “Delhi government is committed to protect our cultural and environmental heritage, in which animal welfare is an integral part. We will not tolerate any illegal sacrifice or cruelty during the festival celebration. Strict adherence to advisory is mandatory and those who have been violated will have to face immediate action.

‘Advisory is according to existing laws’
He said, “This advisory is in accordance with the current laws, including the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act, 1960, Animal Transport Rules, 1978, Slotter House Rules, 2001, and Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It states that the animal transport rule, 1978 is often violated, which causes problems to animals.

The government also said in advisory, “Animal cruelty prevention (Slotter House) Rules) Rule 3 is prohibited from murder / sacrifice outside the slotter house prescribed under Rule 3, especially of animals who are pregnant, whose children are smaller than three months, or who have not certified by the vet. Food security and standard (food product standard and standard) Rules (Food Products Standard and Food Commercial) Rules, so are not considered to be a food animal, so The sacrifice is illegal.

‘Action should be on those who violate rules’
This advisory has been sent to the secretary-cum-cum-appointed (development), DM, DCP, Commissioner (MCD) and other concerned officials. They have been instructed to strictly implement animal welfare laws during Bakrid and take strict action against those who violate.
