With the declaration of results on May 4, the political picture of West Bengal has become clear. Tenure ending on 7th May

The tenure of the West Bengal Assembly is ending on 7 May. This notification of the Election Commission has come amidst the outgoing Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee alleging rigging in the recently held assembly elections in the state and refusing to tender her resignation. Speaking to media persons in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee ruled out the possibility of submitting her resignation as Chief Minister to the Governor. He said, ‘Why should I resign now? We have not lost in the real sense. These results show massive rigging and looting of votes, then where does the question of resignation arise?

If sources are to be believed, the swearing-in of the new government in West Bengal may take place on May 9. This day is the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, hence it is being considered special. Earlier, Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya had also given information about the swearing-in of the government. He said that May 9 is the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the swearing-in ceremony will take place on the same day and it has been announced by the Prime Minister.

The way to form a government is open

Apart from West Bengal, the Election Commission has also issued notification regarding the formation of new assemblies in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The Election Commission’s notifications have opened the way for leaders of winning parties in each state and union territory to stake claim to form the government before the end of the tenure of the previous state assembly. The tenure of Tamil Nadu Assembly is ending on 10th May, that of Assam on 20th May, that of Kerala on 23rd May and that of Puducherry on 15th June.
