If you too are newly married then you too must be facing a problem. Actually, getting your spouse’s name added to your family’s voter list can be a big task. Now to make this work easier, SIR (State Information Registry) process has been started in the country. If you also want to include your wife’s name in government records like voter list, then you can do it easily by adopting this process.

What is the “SIR” process?

“SIR” is a process run by the Election Commission of India, whose full name is Special Intensive Revision. The main work of the “SIR” process is to revise the voter list, i.e. inspect it, remove the names of dead or migrated voters from the voter list and include the names of eligible new voters, so that correct information can be obtained about the voters.

If you have recently got married and you want to add your wife’s name, then use of SIR is possible only if she is an Indian voter in some state. If you want to get their name added to the family register or ration card/citizen identity document, the process will be related to the state-level citizen/family register instead of SIR. It has nothing to do with SIR. The SIR process is only for updating the voter list.

How will the name be updated in SIR?

• Voter list revision has started in many states and union territories in SIR 2025. The SIR process has not yet started in the entire country. However, if this process has started in your area, then you will have to contact the local election office or booth-level officer (BLO).
• Booth-level officer (BLO) will come to your home and give you the SIR form or you can also get it online. For this you https://voters.eci.gov.in/ Will have to visit the website.
• Apart from your information in the form, fill the full name, date of birth, address, and all other information of your bride/wife. Apart from this, also fill the details about the old history of the voter i.e. old voter card etc.
• Submit your form to the booth-level officer (BLO).
• After the form is submitted, the Election Commission or the local office will issue the draft voter-list/register. See your name in it.
• If your name is not in the draft list then you can register your objection. There is a prescribed period for this.

Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav raised questions on the SIR process for NDA’s lead in Bihar election trends, on which Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya has retaliated. Deputy CM Keshav Maurya claimed that like Bihar, NDA will win in Uttar Pradesh also in 2027.

Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India Gyanesh Kumar has announced the program of thorough revision of the voter list. In a press conference held on Tuesday, October 27, at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital Delhi, CEC Gyanesh Kumar released the list of states where the SIR process will be adopted. The voter list of the states where SIR is to be held has been frozen at 12 o’clock tonight. The states where CEC has announced the SIR process include Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Printing and training will take place in the above mentioned five states from October 28 to November 3, 2025. After this, house numbering form will be given from 4th November to 4th December. Then the draft of electoral rolls will be published on 9 December 2025. Time will be given from 9 December 2025 to 8 January 2026 to file objections and claims. During this period, the notice phase will be from 9 December 2025 to 31 January 2026. The final electoral roll will be published by 7 February 2026.

There will not be more than 1200 voters at each booth.

Gyanesh Kumar said that the names of all the people of a family will be there at one booth, this provides convenience to the voters. There will not be more than 1200 voters at each booth. Some new polling booths will be built which also includes high rise societies.

SIR has happened 8 times from 1951 to 2004

CEC said that the objective of SIR is to include eligible voters and exclude the ineligible ones from the list. SIR will be launched in 12 states and union territories in the second phase. He told that from 1951 to 2004, SIR has happened 8 times. All political parties had till now complained about deficiencies in the voter list.

BLO will visit every house at least 3 times

He said that the enumeration forms will be printed for all the voters today itself. Every BLO will visit every house at least 3 times. Voters living outside can also fill EF online. There will be no need to fill any other document or form at the time of enumeration form. Gyanesh Kumar said that after that a draft list will be made whose EF will be returned. Notices will be sent to voters whose linking will not be possible so that they can provide their information.

Like Bihar, the Election Commission has also announced the second phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list in 12 states and union territories of the country. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said on Monday (October 27, 2025) that the second phase of SIR will start from Tuesday (October 28, 2025). The Election Commission said that from tomorrow Tuesday (October 28, 2025), the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of voter list will start in Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. How many voters will be investigated under SIR process?,

Of these, the maximum number of 15 crore 44 lakh 24 thousand voters are in the state of Uttar Pradesh alone. After this, West Bengal is in second place with 7 crore 66 lakh 24 thousand voters. Whereas Tamil Nadu is at third place with 6 crore 41 lakh 15 thousand voters.

At the same time, a total of 5,33,093 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be deployed by the Election Commission for the verification work of this number of voters, out of which 1,62,486 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be deployed in Uttar Pradesh, 80,681, 68,467 in West Bengal, 65,014 in Madhya Pradesh, 52,490 in Rajasthan and 50,963 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Gujarat.

Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishore announced on Wednesday (October 15, 2025) that he will not contest the Bihar Assembly elections. The Election Commission of India has issued strict instructions to the enforcement agencies regarding the Bihar Assembly elections and by-elections to be held in eight assembly constituencies. The objective of the Commission is to prevent misuse of money power, freebies, drugs and alcohol in elections.

The Election Commission said that instructions have been issued to all concerned agencies including State Police Department, Income Tax Department, State Liquor Department, RBI, CGST, SGST, DRI, ED, NCB, RPF, CISF, SSB, BCAS, AAI, Postal Department, State Forest Department and State Cooperative Department to ensure compliance with the election rules.

Election Expenditure Observers will monitor the election expenses of the candidates. They will reach their respective constituencies and meet all the expenditure monitoring teams and do regular reporting of expenditure. The Commission has also directed to keep flying squads, surveillance teams and video surveillance teams on alert round the clock.

The Commission has activated the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) to enable real-time reporting of seizures made during elections by enforcement agencies and flying squads. After the election notification, various agencies have so far seized cash, liquor, drugs and freebies worth Rs 33.97 crore.

What did the Election Commission say?

The Election Commission said that the general public should not face any kind of inconvenience or harassment during the enforcement action. At the same time, people can use C-Vigil App to report any violation.

Deputy Director Pawan said, “Our aim is to ensure clean and fair elections. All enforcement agencies are alert and will take immediate action on any irregularities during the elections.”

When are the assembly elections in Bihar?

The dates for Bihar Assembly elections have been announced. This time elections in the state will be held in two phases. The first phase of voting will be held on 6 November and the second phase of voting will be held on 11 November. Counting of votes and results will be announced on November 14. The nomination process for the candidates has also been decided. The last date for filing nominations for the first phase is October 17, while the last date for filing nominations for the second phase has been fixed as October 20. The date for withdrawal of nominations has also been announced. For the first phase it is 20th October and for the second phase it is 23rd October.
