Electric vehicles (EV) popularity in the country is increasing. Last month, EV sales have increased by about 28.60 percent to 1,80,238 units on a year-by-year basis. It contributes to an increase in sales of electric passenger vehicles. American EV maker Tesla may also start selling electric cars in this market soon.

Electric passenger vehicles have increased to 4.4 percent in the total markets of EVS. In June last year, the figure was 2.5 percent. Electric three-wheeler sales have 60,559 units in June. The same month of last year, it was of 52,302 units. In June, the stake of electric three-wheelers in the total sales of EVS rose to 60.2 percent.

Last month, the retail sales of electric two-wheelers increased by more than 31 percent to 1,05,355 units. It was 80,003 units in the same month of last year. The cells of electric commercial vehicles increased to 1,146 units. This is an increase of 122.5 percent as compared to June of the previous year. The Delhi government is soon to apply Delhi EV Policy 2.0 (Delhi Ev Policy 2.0), which is currently underway. After implementation, this policy will replace the previous Delhi EV policy. In the draft policy, it is proposed to give benefits to the women of Delhi, who will get an incentive amount of Rs 12 thousand per kWh (KWH0), which will be up to Rs 36 thousand on the electric wheeler.

At present, the Delhi government is considering this proposal and it is expected to be approved soon. The Delhi EV Policy 2.0 has been prepared as a complement to the PM e-Drive Scheme of the Government of India, which aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the national capital. The upcoming policy will remain valid till March 31, 2030. The draft proposal for the policy provides information about electric two-wheelers as well as incentives for electric threewhelle vehicles and commercial vehicles.

The purpose of the draft proposal is to promote the adoption of electric two-wheelers in Delhi, which will be given an incentive amount of 10 thousand per kWh (KWH), which will be a maximum of Rs 30,000 per vehicle. Apart from this, the registered owner who puts his petrol-powered two-wheeler in the junk, will also get an additional incentive of Rs 10,000, however, the old vehicle should not be more than 12 years old.

For electric auto-rickshaw in the L5M category, Delhi EV Policy 2.0 will be given an incentive Ramak of 10 thousand per KWH, which is likely to be up to 45 thousand. Those who scrapping ice based auto-rickshaws less than 12 years old are also likely to get scraping incentive of 20 thousand. Ola Electric, one of the large electric two-wheeler companies, has started saving about Rs 90 crore per month due to reduction in the spending of workers, services and warranties of workers and changes in network. In the last few months, the company has faced difficulties due to customers’ complaints about service.

It is also the first electric two-wheeler maker to get subsidy under the Central Government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. Recently, Ola Electric told the stock exchange in a filing that its subsidiary Ola Electric Technologies have received subsidy of Rs 73.74 crore under the PLI scheme of automobiles and auto components from the Ministry of Heavy Industries. The duration of this scheme is five years old and a budgetary allocation of Rs 25,938 crore was made for it. For cost cuts, Ola Electric has prepared to process the vehicle itself. Earlier, the company had outsourced the process of registration of vehicles. The company has formed a team to process the registration of vehicles. Ola Electric estimates that this cost will be reduced to about 20 percent.
