The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) has released a new power tariff plan for the people of the state. With the implementation of new rules, now the electricity bills of common consumers will get some relief. Especially those consumers who consume electricity up to a medium level. At the same time, fixed charge has been increased in some categories.

According to the new tariff plan, those using electricity up to 50 units will be charged the same charge as before. That is, there will be no change in energy charge and fixed charge. The electricity rate on consumption up to 50 units will be only Rs 4.75 per unit.

Relief to consuming up to 150 units

There is relief for those who consume electricity for more than 50 but up to 150 units. The fixed charge in this category has been reduced from Rs 250 to Rs 150. At the same time, the electricity rate has also been reduced from Rs 6.50 per unit to Rs 6. Small and medium families will get direct benefit of this.

Consumers ranging from 150 to 500 units also benefit

There has also been relief for those using electricity from 150 to 300 units. Earlier there was a rate of Rs 7.35 per unit, which has now been reduced to Rs 7. Similarly, on consumption of 300 to 500 units, the electricity rate has also been reduced from Rs 7.65 per unit to Rs 7.

Those using more than 500 units will also benefit from new rates. Earlier there was a rate of Rs 7.95 per unit, which has now been reduced to Rs 7.50. However, the fixed charge has been increased in this category.

Increase in fixed charge

While relief in electricity rates has been given, fixed charge has been increased. The fixed charge of consumers of up to 500 units has been increased from Rs 400 to Rs 500.

Fixed charge on consumption more than 500 units has been increased from Rs 450 to Rs 800. At the same time, a fixed charge on contract demand more than 50 KVA has also been increased to Rs 275 to Rs 300 per KVA monthly bill.

The new tariff will provide relief to the common consumers, but the houses and big consumers who spend more electricity will feel the effect of increasing the fixed charge. This scheme will prove beneficial for small and middle class families as their monthly electricity rates will decrease.

He informed that active talks are going on between India and America regarding bilateral trade agreement. Since March, five rounds of meetings have been held. However, the sixth round of talks on August 25 were postponed after the US government imposed a 50% fee on Indian products from August 27. The date of the next meeting has not been decided so far.

‘India is leading in the field of renewable energy’

He said at the 20th Global Sustainability Summit held on Tuesday (September 2) that India is leading the world in the field of renewable energy today. He informed that India is providing clean energy round the clock at the rate of only ₹ 4.60 to ₹ 5 per unit (about 5 cents), which is the cheapest in the world.

He further said, ‘Before 2014, electricity was very expensive and less in many parts of the country. At that time, people in some states had to buy electricity from Rs 12 to 13 per unit. But after the formation of the national grid, the situation changed and now in areas like South India, electricity is getting electricity at a cheaper rate almost before.

‘5 times expansion in solar energy’

He said that during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the renewable energy sector has made record progress. The initial target of solar energy was laid down 20 GW, which was increased to 100 GW and was also completed on time. He said that transparent auction and competition reduced solar energy rates from ₹ 7–8 per unit to ₹ 2 per unit.
