Tubectomy procedure: There was a time in India when the government used to arrest people and sterilize them. Sanjay Gandhi, son of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, took this matter forward. It is said that at that time people were caught and sterilized. The situation of fear was such that people started shying away from going to work in the fields and were hiding in their homes in case a government vehicle would come and take them away and sterilise them. But a question comes in our mind that how sterilization was done, which vein was cut during sterilization, due to which people could not have children. If you also have such questions in your mind, then let us tell you about it in detail.

How is sterilization done in men?

Vasectomy is called vasectomy in medical language. In this, the doctor cuts the tube called vas deferens and ties it. The vas deferens is the tube that carries sperm out of the testis. During sterilization, it is cut and sealed, so when the sperm does not come out, then how will the children be born? In this way, when a man has physical relation, semen comes out, but sperm does not come out with it. In this way the man’s chances of having children are destroyed. To put it in simple words, fertility is lost, but there is no impact on the man’s ability to have a physical relationship.

sterilization in women

Female sterilization is called tubectomy. In this, the doctor closes the woman’s fallopian tube by cutting or tying it. For your information, let us tell you in simple words that the fallopian tube is the route through which the egg reaches the uterus from the ovary. When this tube is closed, the eggs and sperm cannot meet. In this way women became unable to have children. However, one thing that is most important to note here is that sterilization is a much more difficult task for women than for men. In this, an incision has to be made in the lower part of the stomach to reach the tube.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sterilization is 99 percent effective. Once this procedure is done, the chances of having a child again are very less. But for this the most important thing is that the sterilization work should be done by a knowledgeable doctor only.
