Ashutosh Rana was born on 10 November 1967 in Gadarwara, Madhya Pradesh. Since childhood, he was good in studies and initially his dream was to enter politics. He was active in student politics during his college days and was also associated with theater during this period. While doing theatre, his inclination started moving towards acting instead of politics. After this he took acting training from the famous National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi. From here the foundation of his journey was laid.

Started career from TV serial

In the year 1995, he started his career with the TV serial ‘Swabhiman’. After this he appeared in serials like ‘Farz’, ‘Saajish’, ‘Waris’ and ‘Kaali- Ek Agnipariksha’. He made his place in films due to his hard work and passion.

Fear given a new form in ‘enemy’ and ‘struggle’

Ashutosh Rana’s first big recognition came in 1998 with the film ‘Dushman’. In this film directed by Tanuja Chandra, he played the role of a psycho killer Gokul Pandit. This character was so scary that the audience could not forget that face even after leaving the cinema hall.

The very next year, he played the character of Lajja Shankar Pandey in the film ‘Sangharsh’, which further strengthened his identity. People say that after ‘Sangharsh’ the character of villain in Hindi films changed forever. He was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Villain for both these films.

In an interview, he told that he associates himself with meditation, peace and learning. He believes that a good actor is one who is calm and stable from within. He is a devotee of Mahadev and meditates daily.

Ashutosh Rana has done strong work not only in Hindi films but also in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada cinema. He left his mark in many memorable films like ‘Raaz’, ‘Haasil’, ‘Awarapan’, ‘Mulk’, ‘Sonchiriya’ and ‘Pathan’. He was seen in the role of Maratha warrior Sarsenapati Hambirrao Mohite in Vicky Kaushal’s film ‘Chaava’.

Ashutosh Rana is not only an actor but also a writer and thinker. He has written two books named ‘Maun Muskaan Ki Maar’ and ‘Ramraj’, in which deep things about life and society have been said in simple language.

Ashutosh Rana has received many honors for his acting including Screen Award, Zee Cine Award and Filmfare Awards. In 2021, he was also awarded the Filmfare OTT Award for his father’s role in the film ‘Pagglait’.
