Oil is not just a commodity, but the real accelerator of India’s growth. It is not called Black Gold for nothing, because it runs the engine of the economy. The challenge is that India fulfills more than 85% of its crude oil needs through imports, due to which even a slight rise in prices affects inflation and growth. Meanwhile, a big development has come to light. According to reports, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries is trying to get approval from the US government to import Venezuelan oil. Reliance is in talks with the US State and Treasury Departments. The move comes at a time when Russian oil’s share is declining. If approved, Venezuela will become a strong option in India’s crude basket. This shows that India is not dependent on oil but is prepared.

India has taken an important strategic step regarding the supply of crude oil. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has started diversifying crude oil sourcing amid increasing international sanctions on Russia and global supply uncertainties.

In this series, IOC has purchased crude oil from Colombia for the first time.

This deal has been done under the alternative supply agreement with Colombia’s government company Ecopetrol. IOC has purchased 2 million barrels of Castilla Grade crude oil, delivery of which is expected by the end of February.

So far the IOC’s dependence has been mainly on Russia and the Middle East.

According to Kpler, India’s Russian oil imports may decline to 12 lakh barrels per day in December. This change reflects India’s energy security strategy.

Peeter Navaro, a trade advisor of US President Donald Trump, has once again launched a scathing attack on India. He alleged that India is promoting war by purchasing oil from Russia. He wrote in his latest tweet that India is buying oil from Russia on a large scale, which he called ‘Blood Money’. Navaro says that India had not bought oil from Russia before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but is now purchasing in large quantities. He said, “This is blood money and people are dying.”

X did fact check, told Navaro post ‘Hypocritical’
Social media platform X had labeled a post of Navaro by checking the fact and labeling ‘hypocritical’. The fact check note of X said that India’s buying oil from Russia is a legal and sovereign decision. It cannot be considered a violation of international law. This step was linked to India’s energy security. Navaro reacted strongly about this fact check and called it a “waste note” (CR*P Note).
America accused of double standard
It was also reported in an X note that the US imports goods from billions of dollars every year from Russia, which includes fertilizer and uranium.

While US President Donald Trump is showing strictness to countries like India to buy oil and weapons from Russia, the trade between the US and Russia itself has increased by 20%. This was revealed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the summit in Alaska on 15 August. After Putin’s statement, resentment is being expressed about the double attitude of the Trump administration in India.

Putin’s big disclosure
Putin said, “Incidentally, when the new administration in America came to power, bilateral trade started growing. It is still very symbolic, yet our growth rate is 20%.” He also stated that there are immense possibilities in investment, digital, high -tech and space exploration between the US and Russia. This increase has been recorded since Trump returns to the White House in January 2025.

America’s tough stance on India
Meanwhile, the US has imposed 25% of additional tariffs on India, which will make the total fee 50%. This punitive fee will be applicable from August 27. The US says that it is a matter of concern for India to buy oil and weapons from Russia. However, India has made it clear that its import is completely based on market factors and energy security.

India’s displeasure and statement of the Ministry of External Affairs
India’s Foreign Ministry condemned the move and termed it inappropriate. The ministry said that the US has targeted only India’s oil imports in recent times, while countries like China and European Union (EU) are importing Russian oil on a large scale without any punishment.
India says that its aim is to ensure energy security of 1.4 billion people.

Priyanka Chaturvedi’s attack
Attacking the Trump administration on social media, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote, “According to Putin, America-Russia has increased by 20%. China’s share in Russia’s exports is 32% and 62% of EU. EU’s LNG imports in 2024 have reached 17.8 million tons. It is bullying. “

Alaska Summit and Ukraine issue
Several issues were discussed between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin at the summit in Alaska. It also included efforts to resolve Ukraine War. However, no consensus could be reached on the ceasefire. Trump said that the conversation was good and many issues agreed, but some big issues remained unresolved.

US President Donald Trump is raging on countries buying oil from Russia. Trump first imposed a total of 50 percent recipes on India and then indicated to impose a penalty to China. With this, China has responded to Trump as India. China’s Foreign Ministry has said that China will continue to take appropriate steps for energy security on the basis of national interests. China has described its trade and energy cooperation with other countries including Russia as valid and legal.

Chinese Foreign Ministry’s clear stand

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said in media briefing on Friday, ‘China’s situation is clear and stable. China’s general economic, trade and energy cooperation with countries around the world including Russia are valid and legal. China will continue to take appropriate steps for energy security based on national interests.

China indicated tariffs and reactions of China

Significantly, recently Trump had indicated that if China continues to buy Russian oil, then “secondary tariffs” can be imposed on it. During a conversation with the media at the White House, he said, ‘This may happen. I can’t say now, but we did this with India. Probably we will do the same with some other countries. One of them can be China.

China’s reaction on extra tariffs on India

When asked about Trump’s decision to impose an additional 25 percent tariff on Russian oil imports on India, Guo said, “China has always opposed the abuse of tariffs and its policy is clear on it.” Trump had announced an additional 25 percent tariff on India on Wednesday, which is in addition to the earlier 25 percent fee implemented on July 20. He cited the reason for this the continuous import of Russian crude oil by India.

India’s strong response has come to light on the US decision. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs described it as “unfair, unjust and incompatible” and said that India’s energy needs and strategic autonomy should be respected.

PM Modi said- protect the interests of farmers paramount

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held MS held in Delhi on Thursday. In the Swaminathan Shatabdi International Conference, the protecting the interests of farmers, cattlemen and fishermen was described as the top priority of the government. He said, ‘The interest of farmers is our top priority. India will never compromise the interests of farmers, cattle rearers and fishermen. I know that I may have to pay its personally larger value, but I am ready for it. India is ready for the farmers of the country.
