Now a clear shift is being seen in India’s oil import strategy. Amidst increasing US pressure and global trade challenges, India is increasing focus on alternative sources like Venezuela while reducing dependence on Russia. Trade concerns have increased due to imposition of 25% to 50% tariffs on Indian exports due to Russian crude. Meanwhile, energy ties with Venezuela are being revived again, which is also indicated by the talks of PM Modi and the leadership there. India is gradually reducing oil imports from Russia from 12 lakh bpd to 5–6 lakh bpd. Refiners like HPCL, MRPL, IOC and BPCL are also changing their sourcing strategy. Overall, India is trying to create a balance between energy security and global pressure by diversifying its oil basket.

To strengthen the economic relations between India and the US, Indian public sector oil companies are now preparing to increase gas supply from Russia and increase gas supply from the US. Its purpose is not just energy security, but also to create better relations with the US and to pressurize tariffs. Trade war has disrupted cooking fuel and plastic supply from the US, making LPG’s long -term supply plans. According to Bloomberg report, by 2026, three major gas carriers will import fuel from the US every month, which will meet the needs of more than 33 crore domestic LPG consumers. China is now buying more LPG than West Asia, making America’s products cheap and competitive. Saudi Arabia and other oil exporting countries are also reducing prices to save their share in a large market like India. This change will keep the balance of India’s energy strategy and foreign policy.
