A major accident was averted at Delhi Airport when Swiss Air flight SWR146 from Delhi to Zurich suddenly suffered a technical fault during takeoff. It was told that the engine of the plane failed while taking off, after which the situation became serious. According to eyewitnesses, smoke was seen coming out from the left side of the plane, while fire was reported near the landing gear on the right side. In view of the situation, full emergency was immediately declared, which created panic at the airport.

Keeping security in mind, Runway 28 had to be closed for a long time, due to which other flights were also affected. However, the biggest relief was that all the passengers present in the plane were taken out safely. 232 passengers and 13 crew members were evacuated quickly and safely using emergency slides. During this period, 6 people also got injured.

The fire brigade and security team present at the airport immediately reached the spot and brought the situation under control and stopped the fire from spreading. Due to timely steps taken, a major accident was avoided. At present this incident is being investigated to find out what was the real reason for the engine failure.

In 2015, India and Russia signed an agreement for the joint construction of at least 200 KA-226T light utility helicopters. Under the scheme, 60 helicopters will be imported and 140 helicopter joint ventures will be built locally by Indo-Resian Helicoptors Limited (IRHL).
