How the pictures change with time, this is fully applicable to MP’s engineering colleges today. Till a few years ago, there is silence in the colleges where there were long queues for admission. Sometimes where students and parents were vying to get seats, now thousands of seats are lying vacant there. The situation is so bad that many private colleges are in danger of closure.

The dream of becoming an engineer was once the first choice of youth’s career. Students were ready to get admission in only one good engineering college after spending millions of rupees. But today the scenario has completely changed. Now the youth are neither showing as much interest in this field nor running for admission.

40 thousand seats still vacant
The latest figures make this situation more clear. There are a total of 73,412 seats in 124 engineering colleges of the state. Even after the completion of counseling of the first and second phase, about 40 thousand seats are vacant. So far, only 32,743 seats have been admitted. These figures clearly show that the enthusiasm of the youth on engineering has reduced rapidly.

Trying to save through CLC
College level counseling (CLC) is now being done to fill the vacant seats. In this process started from Tuesday, admissions will be completed by August 14. This is the third phase, in which the college will contact the students themselves and offer them to take admission.

Why the trust of the youth broken?
Experts believe that there are many reasons behind this. First, after engineering, employment opportunities were not as strong as before. Many passout students do not get jobs for years, which broke the enthusiasm of new students. Also, more career opportunities have started appearing in other areas like IT and management.

Crisis in front of many colleges
The lack of students is directly affecting the existence of colleges. Especially private engineering colleges are having difficulty in operation. If this situation continues, many colleges can also be closed in the coming years.

Government and colleges strategy
Government and college management are now working on new courses, skill development programs and industry partnerships so that students are attracted back. Placement drives with online and hybrid classes are also being emphasized.
