England’s legendary all-rounder and former Test captain Ben Stokes has retired. Stokes, who had already left white ball cricket, played the last Test of his international career as captain against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. After Stokes’s retirement, a question was arising in the minds of cricket fans that who will take charge of England in Tests after him? Stokes himself has answered this.

Stokes directly took the name of Test vice-captain Harry Brook. The former captain said that Brook was made the vice-captain so that he could take over the responsibility of captaincy in future.

“That’s why he (Harry Brook) has been made the vice-captain,” Stokes said in the press conference after his last Test.

Brook has been vice-captain since the end of the summer last year, but when England needed a captain for the second Test against New Zealand, Joe Root was chosen. This decision was taken amid the investigation into the nightclub incident, due to which Stokes was out.

It is natural for the vice-captain to become the captain.

Stokes believes that it is a natural process for the vice-captain to become the captain. Stokes said, “Some decisions were taken (regarding Root’s appointment) in the last few weeks, but I was not a part of those decisions.”

Brook has not captained in test yet

The thing to note is that Brook has not yet commanded England in a single test. Although he has commanded England in ODI and T20 cricket. Now it will be interesting to see whether Brook is made the captain in the next Test match of England or not. Till now, Brook has played 38 Test matches, batting in 66 innings, he has scored 3395 runs with the help of 10 centuries and 18 half-centuries.
