South Korea’s data surprised everyone

According to a report, only 5 percent of mobile users in South Korea are using eSIMs. There are about 5.7 crore phone users here, out of which only about 30 lakh are using eSIM. This number has also increased when due to a network scandal, many users have started using eSIM instead of physical SIM card. Last year this number was only 3 percent. It has been said in the report that this situation persists due to lack of public awareness. The government is also worried about this and now preparations are underway to take some steps.

The story is different in America, but the reason is also different

The story is different in America regarding the use of eSIM and here about 38 percent of mobile users are using this SIM. However, there is another reason for this. In fact, many smartphone models sold in America come only with eSIM support, due to which customers do not have the option of buying a physical SIM card and have to use eSIM only. If we talk about UK, then about 40 percent people here say that they have never heard about eSIM, while 41 percent people say that they do not know whether their phone supports eSIM or not.

There were big expectations from eSIM

A GSMA report in 2024 estimated that by 2028 about 50 percent of new connections would be served through eSIM and by 2030 this number would reach 88 percent. But looking at the latest data, it seems that it is very difficult to convert these projections into reality by 2028.
