What did Khurshid say on Modi-Trump meeting?

Salman Khurshid also criticized the meeting between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump in the G-7 summit. He said, ‘Despite claims of deep friendship with President Trump in his meetings with him, PM Modi neither took a clear and strong stand before the President to protect India’s energy sovereignty, nor was he able to obtain a sanction waiver from OFAC, which could have allowed the import of oil from Russia to continue.’

He said, ‘This is a missed opportunity and adds to the repeated compromises made by the BJP government on matters related to India’s energy sovereignty (first by ending subsidized oil purchases from Iran and Venezuela and then by cutting imports from Russia). The result of this is that Indians will continue to get fuel at higher prices and consumers will continue to bear the burden of inflation.
