NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule has said that she will not raise questions on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), because she has been elected MP four times with these machines. Supriya Sule’s party NCP (SP) is part of the opposition alliance ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’, which also includes Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT).

I will not question EVM or VVPAT- Supriya Sule

Sule, a four-time Lok Sabha member from Maharashtra’s Baramati and working president of NCP (Sharad Pawar), said this during the debate on electoral reforms in the Lok Sabha. Sule said in the House, “I have been elected through this machine, so I will not raise questions on EVM or VVPAT.”

I am not talking against EVM- Supriya Sule

She further said, ‘I am not talking against the machine. I am making a very limited statement and I have big expectations from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has got such a huge mandate in Maharashtra.

Supriya Sule’s political journey

Supriya Sule was elected member of Rajya Sabha for the first time in 2006. In 2009, she was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time. After this, she won the Lok Sabha elections in May 2014, May 2019 and June 2024. In 2024, Supriya Sule defeated Sunetra Pawar, her cousin and wife of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar from Baramati seat.

Opposition leaders have been raising questions on EVM

It is noteworthy that the leaders of the opposition India Alliance have been demanding elections through ballot paper. Opposition leaders allege that BJP ‘hacks’ EVMs. However, the ruling party says that where the opposition wins, the EVM is correct and where the opposition loses, the EVM becomes wrong. The ruling party says that the public has rejected them and that is why they keep cursing EVMs.

After the completion of voting for Bihar Assembly elections, the counting of votes is now awaited. Earlier, a big controversy had arisen in Rohtas district regarding a truck loaded with empty boxes. Bihar’s opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has alleged that a truck loaded with EVMs entered the counting center of Sasaram without any information. RJD workers sat on strike regarding this.

Many questions have been raised by sharing a video from RJD’s official X account. It has been asked why the truck allegedly loaded with EVMs was entered into the counting center of Sasaram (Rohtas district) by the district administration without any prior information and transparency? Why were the truck drivers sent away without bringing them to light? Why was the CCTV camera feed closed here since 2 o’clock?

RJD made this appeal to the Election Commission

Seven RJD members have demanded that the complete footage be released and the administration be told what is inside the truck. Regarding this, RJD has also tagged Bihar Election Commissioner and Election Commission and sought clarification. Also warned that if the truth is not revealed, thousands of people will reach the polling booth to stop the alleged ‘vote theft’.

What is the whole matter?

Actually, a ruckus broke out outside the strong room of EVM for the assembly elections in Rohtas. Here a truck loaded with an empty tin box reached the strong room premises, seeing which people started creating ruckus. Supporters of many candidates including RJD protested there.

DM and SP reached the spot

The market committee premises of the city police station area has been made the Vajra Grih of EVM. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, DM and SP of Rohtas also reached the spot. Many RJD candidates complained about the malfunctioning of the CCTV inside the strong room and sat on a dharna outside. Those who sat on strike included RJD candidate from Dinara, Rajesh Yadav; Sasaram candidate Satendra Sah and Nokha candidate Anita Chaudhary were included.

Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar has forcefully admitted that a truck laden with empty boxes had reached the premises. Meanwhile, District Election Officer cum DM has sought clarification from Chenari Assembly Election Officer cum ADM Rohtas Lalit Ranjan in this matter.

Voting for the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections 2025 is taking place. On this day, millions of voters are voting for their favorite candidate through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), but do you know how accurate and safe these machines are? The Election Commission (ECI) adopts a two-tier process for the security of EVMs. Security before the elections (Pre-Election) and security after the elections (Post-Election).

Every EVM machine is thoroughly tested before voting. Government companies like Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) manufacture them. Before the elections, technical checking of these machines is done in the presence of representatives of political parties, so that there are no irregularities. If any machine is found defective, it is immediately sent back to the factory.

After this, all the machines are kept in a secure room, where carrying devices like mobile or camera is completely prohibited. The room is monitored by the state police. The Election Commission also conducts mock polls on some machines to ensure that the voting process is transparent.

Random distribution of machines

The Election Commission randomizes the machines twice. First at the assembly level and then at the polling station level. With this process the possibility of any kind of conspiracy or tampering is eliminated. Even on the polling day, a mock poll is conducted before the polling begins, so that all the candidates can see that the machines are working properly.

post-poll security arrangements

When voting is completed, each EVM is sealed. The seals are signed by the agents of the candidates and then the responsibility of the machines is handed over to the central paramilitary forces. After this all the machines are kept in the strong room. It is a very secure place, where there is 24-hour CCTV surveillance and uninterrupted supply of electricity is ensured. Representatives of the candidates can also participate in the monitoring of these strong rooms. Before counting of votes, the Commission gets the identification numbers of all the seals and machines checked, so that there is no scope for any irregularities.

Why are EVM machines completely reliable?

EVMs are not connected to any network or internet, so it is impossible to hack them or change them remotely. The unique ID of each machine and the three-tier sealing system make it more secure. This transparent process of the Election Commission has made EVMs the most reliable voting system in the world.

Voting for the first phase of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 started today with great enthusiasm and peaceful atmosphere.
The Election Commission has given priority to technology and security in the first phase of voting. 100% webcasting has been arranged at each booth, and voters can directly view their voting information through the new Voter Information Slip (VIS) and EVM Net App. For the first phase, 121 general observers, 18 police observers and 33 expenditure observers have been deployed. Special security surveillance has been maintained in rural areas, so that voting can be conducted fairly and smoothly.

According to voter data, Digha assembly constituency has the maximum number of voters registered at 4,57,657, while Barbigha has the least number of voters at 2,31,998. In terms of area, Bankipur is the smallest (16.239 square kilometer) and Suryagarha is the largest (62.247 square kilometer) assembly constituency.

The Commission has made extensive use of technology to maintain transparency in the election process. Voters can confirm their franchise through EVM Net App and VIS and get complete information about the voting process.

In the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections 2025, the fate of many famous and big candidates will be decided in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). This list includes Grand Alliance’s Chief Ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, and Vijay Sinha.

Bihar Elections: As soon as the election season approaches, a question arises in the mind of every voter, which candidate will appear at which number on the EVM? Especially in important elections like Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, this question remains even more discussed. Some people believe that this order is decided according to the party, while some think that it is according to the alphabet of A, B, C, D. But the reality is completely different from this. Let us find out.

How is the number decided on EVM?

Actually, the order of names of candidates in EVM depends on the language and alphabet of that state. In Hindi speaking states like Bihar, names are arranged according to the Hindi alphabet (Devanagari script). For example, if the word ‘K’ comes first in the alphabet, then if someone’s name starts with ‘K’ then his name will appear first on the EVM. The names of the subsequent letters will appear in the same order. This is why candidates and parties sometimes have to make strategies based on the alphabet in their campaign.

use of vvpat

Only the name and party symbol are printed on the EVM. However, questions have been raised many times regarding the security of voting. Keeping this concern in mind, Election Commission of India also started the facility of VVPAT along with EVM. Through VVPAT, when a voter votes for a candidate, the machine displays a slip identifying that candidate. This slip is not given to the voter nor is the voter’s identity written in it. Its purpose is to ensure that every vote goes to the right candidate.

What does VVPAT work?

In disputed circumstances, votes can be accurately counted using VVPAT. This process becomes even more important in Bihar elections, because due to the huge number of voters and many candidates here, both the order of voting and security become important issues. EVMs and VVPAT have played an important role in making the Indian election process modern, fast and secure. With the help of these technologies, every vote will be counted correctly in Bihar Assembly elections 2025 and voters will be able to vote safely for their favorite candidate.

In this way, the order of names in the EVM is in the language and alphabet of the state, and the security of voting is ensured through VVPAT. This not only makes elections transparent but also creates confidence for the voter.

On the one hand, political parties are busy with the Assembly elections in Bihar, on the other hand, the Election Commission has also completed its preparations. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has said that the assembly elections in Bihar will be held before 22 November as the term of Bihar Legislative Assembly is till 22 November. During this, he said that Sir will be done in the whole country like Bihar.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that the new initiatives initiated by the Commission in this election will be implemented in the whole country in future. Bihar has a total of 243 assembly seats and elections will be held on time. The entire team of Election Commission has been active in Bihar for two days. During this time, the team has held meetings with political parties, administrative election officials, top administrative officials, enforcement agencies, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Special Police Nodal Officer (SPNO), and Nodal Police Force (CAPF) nodal officers in Patna, so that preparations for the election can be fully ensured.

Election Commission gave this big information

The Election Commission said that now there will be no more than 1200 voters at any polling booth. This system will improve both voting process and security. BLO (BOUSH Level Officer) will now contact voters directly and they have been provided ID cards for ease of identity. Apart from this, the facility to vote by depositing mobiles has also been started, so that voters do not bring mobile to polling booths.

100% webcasting at polling station

The Chief Election Commissioner said that one-stop digital platform will be implemented in Bihar. Now every candidate can deploy his agent up to 100 meters from the booth. All polling stations will have 100% webcasting. The EVM will now have colorful photos and ballot paper with colorful photos and serial numbers instead of black and white ballot paper, which will make the identity of the candidates easier and make the voting process transparent.

New Guidelines for EVM Bihar Elections: Preparations for Bihar assembly elections are in full swing. Even though the Election Commission has not yet announced the voting dates, but before that an important change has been implemented. This time, when voters reach to vote, they will see colorful pictures of candidates on EVM ballot. Earlier, photo black and white used to be printed on ballot paper.

The Election Commission says that this initiative is being first started from Bihar. Later it will also be implemented in other states. Under the new guideline, the picture of the candidate will be in three-fourths on the ballot paper so that voters can easily identify the face. Also, the sequence number will also be given more prominence than before. Let us know how much the Election Commission spends on installing EVMs at a booth.

EVM cost

According to the Election Commission data, the price of the ballot unit is around Rs 7991, while the price of control unit has been fixed at Rs 9812. VVPAT is more expensive than these two, which costs around Rs 16,132. Once purchased EVM machine can be used for 15 years on an average, which argues to reduce the cost of election. However, critics believe that after the election ends, it costs a lot in keeping EVMs safe and hi -tech monitoring on them.

How much is spent for EVMs at polling booth

It is not an easy task to hold elections in a huge democratic country like India. To ensure transparency and security at every booth, the Election Commission has to spend a large amount. According to the reports, only 50 to 60 thousand rupees are spent on an average on installing EVMs at one polling station and arrangements related to it. This includes the technical system of EVMs, transport, deployment of security forces and all the allowances of polling personnel.

Expenditure from Assembly to Lok Sabha

If we talk about the assembly elections, millions of booths are made in a state. In such a situation, the total cost reaches thousands of crores of rupees. At the same time, the scope of Lok Sabha elections is much larger than this. More than 1 million polling booths are set up all over the country. According to this, only the cost of thousands of crores of rupees is incurred on booths and EVM management.

The Election Commission says that this expenditure is spent for the strength of democracy and guarantee of fair election. Expenditure includes security arrangements, personnel training, facilities at polling stations and voter awareness campaigns. Experts believe that this investment is necessary for technology and transparency.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition challenging the 2024 Maharashtra assembly election results. Earlier, on 25 June, the Bombay High Court rejected it as a petition to waste time. Now the Supreme Court has refused to interfere in the order of the High Court.

What was said in the petition?
Vikhroli Mumbai assembly seat voter Chetan Chandrakant Ahire said in a petition filed in the High Court that even after 6 pm in the assembly elections in the state, about 76 lakh people cast their votes. The Election Commission is not giving their details. Ahire had demanded polling for 288 seats on 20 November 2024 and the results on 24 November 2024 as illegal.

Prakash Ambedkar, a lawyer and deprived Bahujan Aghadi leader, debated on behalf of the petitioner in the High Court. Senior advocate Ashutosh Kumbhakoni on behalf of the Election Commission and advocate Uday Varunjikar on behalf of the central government presented the side. He said that the petition is not legally valid. In an election, people who are in line before 6 o’clock, are always given a chance to vote. There is no system to keep a record of such people and make it available to anyone.

Supreme Court also refused after High Court
The petitioner also made demands like reviewing EVM-VVPAT of all seats, looking CCTV footage. Along with this, the order of voting with ballot paper was also sought in future. On 25 June, the bench of Justice GS Kulkarni and Arif Doctor of Bombay High Court found the petition disqualified after a long hearing. Now the bench of Supreme Court Justice MM Sundresh and N. Kotishwar Singh has also refused to hear it.

Visavdar by election 2025: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has made serious allegations about voting for the by -election in Visavadar in Gujarat. He said that the BJP wants to win the Visavadar by -election fraudulently. Arvind Kejriwal claimed that live streaming was stopped at all booths in Visavadar.

AAP Mukhiya and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal wrote on X, “The game is being played by the BJP to influence the election with the connivance of the Election Commission from behind the curtain. Live streaming website also stopped working.” He also wrote, “What is happening in broad daylight? Is there a preparation to capture booths on a large scale? I hope that the Central Election Commission will take action immediately.”

Accused of stopping live streaming
Apart from him, AAP leader Gopal Italia also accused the live streaming of booths. He wrote on X, “The Live footage of CCTV from the polling booth in Visavadar has stopped the Election Commission in Visavadar. After the live streaming was closed, the BJP worker at Baghaniya booth has not been imprinted and the police has been killed for not giving fake votes. Is this new game for BJP’s benefit.”

More than 54 percent voting till 5 pm
Please tell that voting in Visavadar seat of Gujarat is over. According to the Election Commission, by 5 pm, Visavadar seat had been polled by 54.61 percent. The state government has declared a public holiday in both constituencies on Thursday (June 19) for voting.

294 are polling stations
Significantly, BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have fielded their candidates in both seats. Votes are being cast through electronic voting machines (EVMs) at 294 polling stations in each constituency. Visavadar seat is vacant since December 2023, when the then MLA Bhupendra Bhayani resigned and joined the ruling BJP.

AAP candidate from Visavadar seat Bhupendra Bhayani defeated BJP candidate Harshad Ribadia by a margin of 7,063 votes in the 2022 assembly elections. Harshad was earlier in Congress. This seat became vacant after Bhayani resigned and joined BJP in December 2023.
