Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the violent and extremist policies of the Mohammad Yunus-led interim government are responsible for tensions with India and that Awami League supporters will not vote in the upcoming elections as the ban on the party violates the country’s constitution.

Sheikh Hasina, who is living in exile in India, said in an e-mail sent to Hindustan Times on Thursday (November 6) that Yunus sponsoring extremists in his government is in danger of damaging the fundamental relations between Bangladesh and India. He said that I am very grateful to the Indians for giving me safe shelter.

‘India has been the most important ally of Bangladesh’

Responding to a question asked to Sheikh Hasina, the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in Bangladesh has described your presence in India as a cause of tension in bilateral relations, she said that India is and always has been the most important ally of Bangladesh. If Bangladesh’s security and prosperity is to be maintained then it will have to remain like this. If there is any difference of opinion between India and the unelected administration of Dr. Yunus, it has nothing to do with me. This is related to the anarchic, violent and extremist policies flourishing under the rule of Dr. Yunus.

What did you say about the allegations against you?

The International Criminal Tribunal for Bangladesh will deliver its verdict in November in the cases related to crimes against humanity registered against you and other senior Awami League leaders. How do you view these cases against you? Responding to this, Sheikh Hasina said that I categorically deny all the allegations against me because these allegations have been made by a kangaroo court, which is controlled by political opponents. Remember, not a single Bangladeshi got a chance to vote for this interim government. There is no true respect for accountability or due process.

ICC must have impartial trial for crimes against humanity

Awami League has approached the ICC to investigate the violence against its leaders and supporters, how confident are you that this move will be successful? On this, Sheikh Hasina said that crimes against humanity should be tried impartially by an impartial international tribunal like the ICC. Retaliatory violence targeting Awami League members and supporters, members of the judiciary, journalists and religious minorities has been widely reported in the international media and criticized by several human rights organizations and the United Nations.

Taking aim at Tejashwi, Owaisi said that the one who does not bow before you, who does not beg, who is not afraid of your father (i.e. Lalu Prasad Yadav). You call him a coward? A beard on my face and a cap on my head, does that make me an extremist? There is so much hatred inside you.

AIMIM will form third front in the state- Owaisi
AIMIM posted on Twitter that Tejashwi Yadav called Owaisi a militant after seeing the cap on his head and beard on his face. This is an insult to all the people of Seemanchal. Let us tell you that this reaction has come to light after the talks on seat sharing between AIMIM and RJD led grand alliance failed.

Owaisi said his party will form a ‘third front’ in the state, where for years voters’ options have been limited to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United and his ally BJP or the Congress-RJD partnership.
