US President Donald Trump has signed a 25 per cent tariff on India on the order. Meanwhile, India has taken a very big decision. According to Bloomberg report, the officials familiar with the case said on the condition of anonymity that India will not buy F-35 stealth fighter aircraft from America. During Modi’s visit to Modi’s White House in February, Trump offered to sell these expensive fighter aircraft to India. However, officials said that the Modi government is more interested in focused on the joint design and construction of defense equipment domestically, but no response has been received from the Ministry of Defense Ministry about the matter yet.

After the US imposition of tariffs, India is considering options to satisfy the US, including promoting American imports. However, India has denied retaliation on President Donald Trump’s 25% tariff’s decision. New Delhi officials on Wednesday (30 July 2025) spoke of shocking and disappointed with Trump’s announcement, as this conversation was private. He said on the condition of anonymity that the government is keen to bring bilateral trade talks back on track and is looking for ways to increase shopping from its biggest business partner.

Emphasis on increasing the purchase of natural gas
According to sources, India is considering increasing the purchase of natural gas from the US and increasing the import of communication and gold. Officials said that promoting these things can help reduce India’s trade surplus with the US in the next three to four years. He told that there is no plan to purchase defense. New Delhi officials are not considering responding immediately to Trump’s tariff threat. The government has already reserved the right to respond to increased American charges on steel and automobiles at the time of its choice in the World Trade Organization.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s statement
India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had expressed confidence of a trade agreement with Washington a few days ago. He told Parliament on Thursday that the government is now interacting with exporters to assess the impact of Trump’s tariff. Amidst the opposition’s vigorous protests, Goyal said, “The effects of the recent developments are being investigated.” He further said that his ministry is collecting feedback from exporters and industry groups and will take all necessary steps to protect and advance our national interests.
