On searching his house, the police found fake notes worth more than Rs 2 lakh, a computer, printer, punching machine, note cutting die, glue, screen plate, cutter, special paper, pencil, a steel scale, a light box and dot-stepping file, which were confiscated. The accused had previously worked in a printing press.

Additional DCP Zone-2 Gautam Solanki said that on November 14, the police received information that a youth wearing a black shirt was roaming in Nizamuddin area with fake notes of Rs 500 and was trying to circulate them in the market. The police laid a trap and took the youth into custody. First he introduced himself as Vivek Yadav, a resident of Karond, Bhopal. During the search, 23 fake notes of Rs 500 were recovered which looked exactly like genuine notes. Then there was a tough interrogation, only then he was exposed.

When the police checked his mobile phone, they found several videos of making fake notes. He told the police that he learned the entire process of making fake notes by watching these videos again and again. To make the notes look real, he learned the process in detail by watching videos several times. He also had experience of working in a printing press, due to which he had the understanding of correct color combination and cutting. He ordered special types of paper online, cut the sheets with a blade and marked them with a pencil.

Then he pasted the RBI strip on another piece of paper and joined the two sheets together. After printing the design, he cut the paper exactly like a Rs 500 note and prepared fake notes by adding the currency value and watermark on it.

According to the police, Yadav has till now circulated fake notes worth lakhs of rupees. After making the notes, he went to different areas away from his rented house, bought small things with fake Rs 500 notes and collected real notes in return. During interrogation, he confessed to circulating fake notes worth Rs 5-6 lakh in the market. On searching his house, the police recovered 428 fake notes of Rs 500, whose value was Rs 2,25,500.

Fake notes in india: 2,17,000 fake notes were seized during FY 2024-25 in the country, while 2,23,000 such notes were seized a year earlier. The government gave information about this in Parliament on Monday. In response to a written question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that 1,17,722 notes of 500 rupees of the new series were seized. After this, 51,069 notes of 100 rupees and 32,660 notes of 200 rupees were recovered.

Pankaj Chaudhary said that on the advice of RBI, the Government of India reviews the effectiveness of security features of bank notes from time to time. Also, steps are taken to implement new security features under Section 25 of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.

According to RBI’s latest bulletin released in August 2024, the number of projects approved by banks and financial institutions increased from 401 in 2021-22 to 944 in 2023-24.

During this period, the cost of approved projects also increased from Rs 1.4 lakh crore to Rs 3.9 lakh crore. He said that the government is taking steps like capital expenditure, infrastructure development, financial reforms and access to business to restore the trust of investors and increase the participation of private sector. In addition, institutions such as National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and National Bank of Financing Infrastructure and Development offer infrastructure financials for a long time.

In a written reply to another question, Chaudhary said that the RBI has mentioned that based on the financial statements data received from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the net immovable properties of Private Limited companies recorded a steady increase of 7.6%, 10.3% and 10.2% respectively in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 respectively.

Fake currency: The number of fake notes in the country is constantly increasing. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in its annual report of 2024-25, “In FY 2025, the identity of fake notes of 500 rupees (except some banks) increased by 37.35 percent to 1,17,722 compared to last year. This number is the highest in the last six years.

However, the total number of fake notes caught by the banking system declined to 2,17,396 in FY 25, which was 2,22,638 last year. In contrast, there has been a drastic decline of 86.5 percent in the number of fake notes of 2000 rupees and it has come down from 26,035 to 3,508 high levels in FY 24 to 3,508. This decline came after the RBI’s decision to withdraw the 2000 rupee note on 19 May 2023.

By April 30, 2025, 2000 rupee notes worth Rs 6,266 crore were in trend. According to the report, till September 1, more than 93 percent i.e. a large part of about 3.56 trillion rupees of the 2000 note has been deposited in the bank. Fake notes with low value are also in the market. The number of counterfeit notes worth less than Rs 200 increased to 32,600, while the number of counterfeit notes of 100 rupees has come down by about 23 percent to 51,069. Meanwhile, the currency (CIC) in the trend – which is 76.9 percent of the reserved currency – improved by 5.8 % in FY 2025, while it was 4.1 % a year ago.

In the circulation, both the value and volume of bank notes have increased by 6 percent and 5.6 percent respectively. Among the notes present in the circulation, 500 rupee notes have the highest share, which is 86 percent in terms of value and 40.9 percent in terms of volume. After this, the share of 10 rupee notes is 16.4 percent. The RBI report also mentioned the increase in digitally transaction.
