The government has given shocking information regarding the quality of medicines that improve the health of patients. In fact, during September 2025, medicines were tested in the market, out of which samples of 112 medicines failed in the quality check. This means that these 112 medicines which cure patients can make them sick. Of these 112, 52 samples were tested by the Central Drugs Laboratories, while 60 samples were found ‘Not of Standard Quality’ (NSQ) by the State Labs. At the same time, a sample of medicine was also found fake in Chhattisgarh. Health Ministry officials gave this information on Thursday.

What are NSQ medicines?

A Health Ministry official said that the quality of medicines is checked every month. For this, samples are tested in central and state labs. In this investigation conducted in September, samples of a total of 112 medicines did not meet the standard quality. NSQ means that these medicines failed in one or more quality parameters. In these, the effective ingredients of the medicine were not in the right quantity or there was some other deficiency.

Officials also clarified that the defect was only in the batch of samples that were tested. This does not mean that other medicines of that company or their other batches are also bad. People do not need to panic. This investigation was only for a particular batch. It has no effect on other medicines available in the market.

A medicine was found fake

Apart from these 112 samples, one medicine sample was found fake in Chhattisgarh. This medicine was made by a company which did not have a license. This company misused the brand name of another company. This means that this medicine was completely fake. The Health Ministry has taken this matter seriously and has started investigation.

Inspection is done every month

Quality check of medicines is a regular process. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) tests samples of medicines every month. After this, the list of medicines which fail the quality test or are found to be fake is posted on the CDSCO website. This list of September 2025 includes a total of 112 NSQ samples and one counterfeit medicine.

How to avoid such medicines?

• Check the prescription: Before buying the medicine, check its batch number and manufacturing date. You can see the list of NSQ medicines by visiting the website of CDSCO.
• Buy from a licensed store: Always buy medicines from a trusted and licensed medical store.
• Consult a doctor: If you have any doubts about the quality of the medicine, contact your doctor immediately.

Apart from this, there is also a hologram or QR code on the real medicine, which can be scanned and the reality of the medicine can be known. For this, you have to scan the QR code on the medicine by opening the mobile scanner. As soon as the scan is scanned, the name of the real company related to the medicine, manufacturing date, batch number and other details will be seen on your phone.

If there is no information on scanning or wrong details are revealed. So understand the medicine is fake. The QR code of real medicine is always active and shows immediate information. Fake drug makers either do not put QR code or they fail when scanned.
