Its maximum takeoff weighs 13,500 kg and its range with a drop tank goes up to 3,482 km, but its safety record is weak. Since 2011, there have been at least 4 accidents in which the pilots have also lost their lives.

Tejas technically more modern

If you compare both aircraft, Tejas is technically more modern. Its range and height is almost equal to JF-17 but Tejas gains due to light design and modern weapon systems. Tejas is much better than JF-17 in security records. The biggest difference is that China did not include JF-17 in its Air Force, which shows its weakness.
