The border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has once again become violent. Heavy firing has been going on between the forces of the two countries for two days, in which more than 19 people have died and hundreds have been injured. Meanwhile, Cambodia has demanded a ‘immediate and unconditional ceasefire’ at the United Nations, while Thailand has also indicated the talks.

In view of the ongoing border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia, the Government of India has issued advisory for its citizens. The Indian Embassy in Cambodia’s capital has appealed to Indian citizens to avoid traveling to border areas in view of the current situation. The advisory issued by the embassy on Friday (July 25, 2025) states that all Indian citizens who are in Cambodia or surrounding areas should avoid going to the border with Thailand. The situation there is continuously deteriorating and security risk has increased.

1. Appeal to Cambodia to United Nations

Cambodia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Chia KO, said that his country does not want war. He said, “We are a small country, we do not have Air Force, we cannot attack Thailand with large army. We just want peace.”

2. Thailand signs of conversation

A spokesman for the Thai Foreign Ministry said that his country is also ready for peace talks with the help of Malaysia, but so far he has not received any formal proposal.

3. Malaysia took this initiative

Malaysia, who is the president of ASEAN (South-East Asian countries), has offered mediation. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that both countries have agreed on the ceasefire, but it will take some time to implement it.

4. Heavy firing on the border

On Friday (July 25, 2025), the fight started at three places again at 4 am. The Cambodian army attacked with heavy cannon, field artillery and Russian BM-21 rocket system. In response, the Thai army also took appropriate retaliation.

5. What was the reason for the clash?

On Wednesday (July 23, 2025), 5 Thai soldiers were injured in a landmine blast near the border. After this, a fight started at six places from Thursday, including two areas of ancient temples.

According to the Thai Health Ministry, 19 people have died so far, in which 14 common citizens, one soldier and others are injured. About 1.38 lakh people have been evacuated to safe places from border areas.

The root of the quarrel on the border is a 7th -century Hindu temple, on which both countries assert their authority. The international court gave the verdict in favor of Cambodia in 2013, but the Thai army is still active in that area.
