Electric shock or current is a serious accident, which can be fatal. In such a situation, it is very important to take steps at the right time and properly, so that the life of the victim can be saved. Instead of panic, stay calm and take these steps immediately.

Do this work first

• Security first: The first and most important thing is to ensure your safety. Do not try to touch the victim, until the source of electricity stops. If you touch the victim without closing the source of electricity, you may also feel current.
• Turn off the main switch: If possible, immediately stop the main electrical switch (main supply) of the house or place. This is the safest way.
• Remove the plug: If the device is plug-in, then carefully remove the plug from the socket.
• Use electrical conductor or insulated item: If you cannot immediately turn off the power, use an insulated item like dry wood, plastic stick, rubber glove or dried cloth to separate the victim from the power source. Do not use metal or wet cheese at all. Separate the victim by pushing or pulling away from a distance.

What to do after closing the source of electricity?

• Once the victim is separated from the contact with electricity, take these steps immediately.
• Call 108 (ambulance) or 112 (police/emergency service) without delay. Tell them that there is a shock of electricity and you need help.

How to check the victim?

• Breath check: See if the victim is breathing or not. If he is not breathing, then immediately start giving CPR (cardiopulmonary residence). If you are trained.
• Pulse check: Try to feel pulse (pulse) on the neck or wrist.
• Investigation of injuries: Electric shock can cause burns. Check the burning marks on the victim’s body, especially where the current was applied. Electric shock can also harm the internal organs, even if there is no injury from the outside.

Treatment of burnt part

• If the skin is burnt, add cold (but no ice) water on the burnt part or keep a cold, wet bandage.
• Cover the burnt part with a clean cloth.
• Do not try to break the burnt blister (blisters).
• Keep the body warm: If the victim is feeling cold or she is in shock, then try to keep her warm by covered with blankets or clothes.
• Do not allow the victim to move. If you feel that the victim has an internal injury or bone can break, do not let him move, until medical help comes.

Some additional precautions for rescue

• Always stay away from damaged wires or loose plugs.
• Do not touch electrical appliances with wet hands.
• Keep children away from electric sockets and wires.
• Take care when using electrical appliances near water.
