An innings in which 26 sixes and 34 fours were hit. India’s Tanmay Agarwal had achieved this feat in first class cricket about two years ago. Tanmay Agarwal then scored a triple century in just 147 balls, which is still a world record.

Tanmay Aggarwal had destroyed records

Tanmay Agarwal had made the record of scoring a triple century in 147 balls in the Ranji match played between January 26 and 27, 2024. He played this innings against Arunachal Pradesh. Tanmay had broken many records during his innings. The first and most special record among these was the fastest triple century in first class cricket, which was earlier in the name of Marco Maris. Marco Maris of South Africa, playing for Border, scored a triple century in 191 balls in the year 2017.

Thanks to the stormy innings of Tanmay Agarwal and Rahul Singh, Hyderabad had scored 615 runs for 4 wickets in just 59.3 overs. Hyderabad had a run rate of 10.33 in this innings. Hyderabad’s stormy batting not only broke records but also shattered the morale of Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh team lost this match by 187 runs in just two days.

There are some innings in cricket history which not only create records but also become an example for the coming generations. One such inning was played by Brian Lara 30 years ago, when he surprised the entire cricket world by scoring 501 runs alone. This was the innings which redefined the boundaries of batting.

Historic innings played against Durham

The year 1994, a county cricket match of England was going on. There was a competition going on between Durham and Warwickshire. Batting first, Durham declared the innings after scoring 556 runs for 8 wickets. John Morris scored a double century and played an innings of 204 runs. However, despite this, no one thought that in reply a batsman from Warwickshire would create history. When Brian Lara came to bat at number three, the team’s score was only 8 runs. The conditions were difficult, but Lara changed the course of the match with his batting.

What happened after this was recorded in the golden chapters of cricket. Lara did not let the bowlers walk. He showed such a mixture of restraint, technique and aggression that the entire Durham team standing on the field looked helpless. He scored an unbeaten 501 runs in 427 balls, which included 62 fours and 10 sixes. The special thing was that Lara alone hit more boundaries than the entire Durham team. This figure alone is enough to tell what level of innings it was.

This was the first time in first class cricket, when a batsman crossed the 500 run mark. Earlier, Pakistan’s Hanif Mohammad’s score of 499 runs was considered the highest. Leaving that record behind, Lara placed herself in a different league. His innings still remains the biggest innings of first class cricket.

Brian Lara was always considered a contemporary and rival of Sachin Tendulkar. While Sachin is known for his consistency and long career, Lara is known for his extraordinary and big innings. Lara is also the only batsman in the world to score 400 runs in Test cricket. That innings played against England in 2004 is also unbroken till date.

But the services bowlers overpowered the Assam team and in just 17.2 overs, the Assam team was all out for 103 runs in the first innings. In response, the Services team could score only 108 runs in 29.2 overs. Services got a lead of only 5 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, Assam’s condition was worse than before. Assam team was all out for 75 runs in 29.3 overs in the second innings. Services had a target of 71 runs in the second innings, which the team achieved in 13.5 overs at the loss of 2 wickets. With this, Services won the match by 8 wickets.

• If no player is played in the Ranji Trophy yet and has become a part of the squad of the playing XI, then he gets 25 thousand rupees a day. At the same time, no amount is received when this player is only as a reserve player.
