Chennai Metro Rail Limited has designed the station with special European technology. In which automatic flood gates are being installed. These gates will be closed automatically as the sea water level rises so that the sea water does not come inside the station. After the 2004 tsunami, many concerns were raised about security in this area, keeping this step in mind.

Light House Metro station has a length of 414 meters and width is 35 meters, which makes it larger than Chennai Central Metro Station. This station provides parking of 12 trains with 6 tracks and its platform is kept above the Concourse level. At the same time, a tunnel boring machine named Flemingo is building a 2 km long tunnel here which will connect the Kachhari Road and Thirumayilai metro station of the station. Under Phase Two of Chennai Metro, this corridor will be opened to the general public between 2025 and 2028.
