Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), crying about the economic situation of his country, appealed to the IMF managing director Christalina Georgree for mercy. The Prime Minister of Pakistan has urged the IMF to take into account the economic situation of his country before the review of the IMF on Thursday (September 25, 2025).

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), “Whatever commitments are being done with the Pakistan International Monetary Fund (IMF), continuously fulfilling them, but IMF is urged to take care of the damage caused by the recent floods in his upcoming review.”

UNGA Shahbaz Sharif commented during the 80th session

Shahbaz Sharif made this comment during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The 7 billion bailout package given by the IMF i.e. Expended Fund Facility (EFF) is to be reviewed on Thursday (September 25, 2025). The fund was approved in May 2025. This review will assess Pakistan’s performance for the 2025 March-June quarter.

There was a second review about this in August, but Pakistan had failed to achieve three targets. The Finance Ministry had stated in its financial report that no provincial government could achieve the target of savings of 1.2 trillion Pakistani rupees. At the same time, Pakistan’s total fiscal deficit was 5.4 percent (6.2 trillion rupees) of GDP, below the target of 5.9 percent of the IMF.

Imf 50 conditions were placed in front of Pakistan for bailout package

The IMF laid around 50 conditions under the Bellout Package, some of which are reviewed on quarterly and annual basis and the approval of the next $ 1 billion installment to Pakistan depends on these.

A report by Pakistan’s brokerage house topline securities claimed that Pakistan is on the way to fulfill all the seven quantitative performance norms (QPC) set by the IMF.

Pakistan’s Information Department issued a statement

According to Pakistan’s leading media group Dawn, the Pakistani Information Department (PID) issued a statement after a meeting between Prime Minister Shahbaz and Georgiya. It said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif urged in the meeting that it would be better if IMF reviews the impact on Pakistan’s economy due to the recent floods. According to PID, Georgiya expressed her condolences to all those affected by the floods.

Flood and Heavy Rainfall in Pakistan: Heavy rains and thunderstorms in Pakistan have caused havoc. Due to continuous rains, flood -like situations have occurred in many places in Pakistan. Due to this, hundreds of people have died and more than 400 people are injured. The National Disaster Management Authority/NDMA of Pakistan has made a statement in this regard on Friday (July 18, 2025).

According to the ARI News report, the data released by NDMA in its statement is surprising. Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority said that between 26 June and 17 July this year, a total of 178 people have lost their lives in many incidents related to heavy rains and rain across the country. Apart from this, 491 people have also been injured.

Pakistan’s Punjab most died

People of Punjab province have lost the most of the total deaths across the country. According to NDMA, a total of 103 people have died in Pakistan’s Punjab province. After this, 38 people have died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 20 people have died in Sindh province and 16 in Balochistan.

54 people lost their lives in the last 24 hours

NDMA said in its statement, “In the last 24 hours, 54 people have died in the whole of Pakistan and 227 people have been injured during this period. NDMA said that the sudden flood in Pakistan is the main reason for this tragedy. Apart from this, the situation is becoming even more serious due to many sudden problems including collapse of buildings.
