Deposed former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina on Monday (December 22, 2025) termed the recent statement given by a Bangladeshi leader regarding the North-Eastern part of India and Chicken Neck as dangerous. He said that such statements reflect the strengthening of extremist elements under the current Mohammad Yunus-led government of Bangladesh.

In fact, Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah recently gave a fiery speech, in which he claimed that Bangladesh can give shelter to separatist forces from India and separate the seven northeastern states (Seven Sisters) from the country.

What did Sheikh Hasina say on relations with India?

At the same time, the Chicken Neck Corridor located in Siliguri, West Bengal, connects the mainland of India to the northeastern states, which is considered one of the most sensitive strategic bottlenecks in the world.

In an email interview to news agency ANI, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Such statements are extremely dangerous and irresponsible, which show the extremist elements increasing their influence in the regime of Mohammad Yunus. No serious leader threatens such a neighboring country, that too when Bangladesh is dependent on it for trade, transportation and regional stability.

India has every right to express concern – Sheikh Hasina

This statement of Bangladesh’s Awami League Party chief Sheikh Hasina came at a time when fresh violence has erupted in the country after the death of fundamentalist student leader Sharif Usman Hadi. In such a situation, commenting on the anti-India rhetoric, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘It only serves the imagination of like-minded people and not the national interests of Bangladesh. India has every right to express concern over such statements and these voices do not represent the people of Bangladesh. Our people understand that our prosperity and security depend on strong relations with New Delhi.

If responsible governance returns, careless statements will end – Hasina

Former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina expressed confidence that as soon as democracy is restored in the country and a responsible government comes to power, all such careless statements will end. He said, ‘The current tension in relations between India and Bangladesh is entirely the responsibility of the Yunus regime, whose government makes hostile statements against India, fails to protect religious minorities and gives freedom to extremists to decide foreign policy. Then when the tension increases, then one also expresses surprise.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina criticized the current interim government on the completion of one year of democratically elected Awami League government in Bangladesh on Tuesday (August 5, 2025). He appreciated the countrymen for standing against injustice and repression.

In an open letter to the people of the country, Sheikh Hasina wrote, “A year ago, our country saw violent disruption in democracy achieved by our difficult struggles, when a non-elected regime took power in unconstitutional ways. It was a black moment in our history. It was an insult to the public’s will and the state was betrayed.”

Sheikh Hasina praised the courage of the people of Bangladesh

Criticizing the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus, Hasina wrote, “Even though he has taken power, he will never be able to take away our spirit, our resolve or our fate. I can assure you.” He praised the extraordinary courage of the people of Bangladesh, who has refused to remain silent in front of injustice and repression.

In the letter, he wrote, “You raised their voice for democracy, freedom and the future that we all deserve. I am constantly inspired by your courage and your love for the country. Although this has been tested by us last year, but it has also highlighted the unbreakable bond between our people and the values of democracy. We have faced difficulties, but we have found unity and purpose in those difficulties.”

Hasina wrote, “The power belongs to the people, no governance can suppress the willpower of a nation forever and their struggle continues for just purposes.” The former Prime Minister urged people to stand for justice, economic opportunity, education, peace and a nation where no one is in fear. He wrote, “We will all re -create what we have broken together. We will all together recover the institutions that were taken away from us. We will all write a new chapter, which will be defined not by harassment, but from hope, progress and freedom.”

The former Prime Minister wrote, “Bangladesh has faced adverse circumstances earlier. We will stand up again and even strong and even stronger and even more united and more determined to build a democracy that really serves my people. I believe in you. I believe in Bangladesh and I believe that our best days are yet to come.” Hasina appealed in the letter to remember as a call for the bright tomorrow.

Sheikh Hasina on Muhammad Yunus: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accused the interim government chief Mohammad Yunus of selling the country to America. Sheikh Hasina also condemned the recently imposed ban on her Awami League Party. He described this move of the Yunus government as unconstitutional.

In an audio message posted on Awami League’s social media account, Sheikh Hasina once again accused Mohammad Yunus of capturing the Bangladesh government with the help of extremist groups. This statement of Bangladesh’s deputed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has come to light at a time when Mohammad Yunus threatened to resign on the call of the army in December.

In the audio message, Sheikh Hasina claimed, “Mohammad Yunus, who made an international identity under his government, has given the government’s reins to the terrorists, against whom his government fought the fight.”

He said, “My father did not agree with America’s demands for the island of St. Martin.” He had to give his life for this. This was my destiny, because I never thought of selling the country to stay in power.

Sheikh Hasina alleged in the audio message, saying, “Mohammad Yunus took power in Bangladesh with the help of extremist groups. He grabbed power with the help of terrorists. Took the help of such terrorists, who are banned in various international areas, against which my government has protected the people of Bangladesh. Now the jails are empty. He (Yunus government) released everyone. Now Bangladesh is the rule of those terrorists.

,Laws cannot change without Parliament,

He targeted the government for banning the Awami League in Bangladesh, calling Mohammad Yunus a ‘militant leader’. Sheikh Hasina said, “Who gave the right to touch the constitution to this militant leader who has illegally occupied power?” He does not have the mandate of the people and has no constitutional basis. That post (Chief Advisor) also has no basis and it does not exist. How can they change the law without Parliament? It is illegal.
