The first President of the country used to get this much salary

When the Constitution of the country came into force on 26 January 1950, Dr. Rajendra Prasad took charge as the first President of the country. Dr. Rajendra Prasad is the only President who spent 12 years in Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was born on 3 December 1984 in Jiradei village of Siwan district of Bihar. The situation then was not like it is today. At that time the President’s salary was much less than today. During the tenure of the President, the salary today is Rs 5 lakh whereas earlier this salary was only Rs 10 thousand and Dr. Rajendra Prasad used to take half of this salary i.e. only Rs 5000. Also, Dr. Prasad used to take only Rs 2500 at the end of his tenure. Not only this, he did all his work himself and had only one personal employee. Gradually, times changed, inflation increased and responsibilities also increased, hence the President’s salary was increased several times.

What is the difference between the salary then and now?

If we compare the salary of old times and today’s salary, then the difference appears huge. Earlier the President used to get limited facilities and low salary, but now the President gets the facility of a large security team, luxury cars, free travel and a large staff. Today there are about 340 rooms in Rashtrapati Bhavan and hundreds of people work there. This is the reason why the presidency is now considered to have more privileges than before.

Special facilities are available even after retirement

In India, the post of President is not special only till the tenure, but many facilities are available even after retirement. For example, after retiring from the post of President, the former President gets a pension of Rs 2.5 lakh per month, not only this, his wife is also given an amount of Rs 30 thousand per month as secretarial assistance. Apart from this, a bungalow with at least 8 rooms for living and travel facilities are also provided. At the same time, the facility of security and personal staff of five people also continues. This is the reason why the post of President is counted among the most respected and privileged posts in the country.
