Congress Attacks Modi Government: Diesel and Congress prices have increased for the third time in the last 10 days. Regarding this, Congress made a sharp attack on the Central Government on Saturday. Congress alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is putting the burden of inflation on the common people, while the government is only concerned about the profits of oil companies.

Congress posted on social media platform X and wrote, ‘Inflation Man’ Modi has increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 5 in the last 9 days. Today again petrol was made costlier by 94 paise and diesel by 95 paise.

Modi is only concerned about the profits of oil companies. On one hand, while governments around the world are providing relief to their people, the Modi government is engaged in looting the people.

At least, sometimes…

— Congress (@INCIndia) May 23, 2026

‘The government is thinking about the profits of oil companies, not the public’

Congress alleged that the Modi government is giving priority to the profits of oil companies instead of providing relief to the people troubled by inflation. The party said, ‘Modi is only concerned about the profits of oil companies. Governments around the world are providing relief to their citizens, while the Modi government is busy looting its own people. At least think once about the public interest, for how long will we continue to side with the capitalists?

Prices increased for the third time in 10 days

This reaction of Congress has come at a time when the prices of petrol and diesel were increased again in the major metros of the country on Saturday. This is the third time in less than 10 days that fuel prices have been increased amid ongoing instability in the global energy market. The price of petrol in Delhi has increased by 87 paise to Rs 99.51 per liter. Diesel became costlier by 91 paise and reached Rs 92.49 per litre.

Now inflation man Modi has also increased the prices of CNG. CNG has become costlier by Rs 4 in the last 9 days.

Narendra Modi is openly looting the public. Because he has to fill the coffers of his rich friends.

— Congress (@INCIndia) May 23, 2026

Highest increase in Kolkata

Petrol in Kolkata became costlier by 94 paise to Rs 110.64 per litre. Whereas diesel increased by 95 paise to Rs 97.02 per liter. The price of petrol in Mumbai increased by 90 paise, after which its rate became Rs 108.49 per liter. Diesel became costlier by 94 paise and reached Rs 95.02 per litre. In Chennai, petrol became costlier by 82 paise to Rs 105.31 per liter and diesel by 87 paise to Rs 96.98 per litre.

Prices had increased even before this

Earlier on Tuesday also the prices of petrol and diesel were increased. In Delhi, petrol increased from Rs 97.77 to Rs 98.64 per liter and diesel increased from Rs 90.67 to Rs 91.58 per liter. In Mumbai, petrol became costlier by 91 paise to Rs 107.59 per liter and diesel by 94 paise to Rs 94.08 per litre. In Chennai, petrol increased by 82 paise to Rs 104.49 and diesel by 86 paise to Rs 96.11 per litre. In Kolkata too, petrol increased by 96 paise to Rs 109.70 per liter and diesel increased by 94 paise to Rs 96.07 per liter.

Fuel becomes expensive in Jaipur too

During the last increase in Jaipur, petrol had become costlier by 94 paise and diesel by 92 paise per litre. After this, the price of petrol in Jaipur became Rs 108.91 per liter and the price of diesel became Rs 94.15 per liter. On May 15, the central government had increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 3 each per liter across the country.

Read this also- Petrol and diesel prices increased again, prices increased for the third time in 10 days, CNG also gave a shock

The ongoing conflict and energy crisis in West Asia is considered to be the major reason behind this repeated increase. It is being told that the global energy market has been affected due to the blockage in the important maritime trade route Strait of Hormuz. Due to this, an appeal is being made all over the world to save fuel.

Imagine, what would happen if one day suddenly it is written on the petrol pump that the fuel is out. Major economies of the world are dependent on oil, but the reserves of many countries are decreasing rapidly. In such a situation, the question arises that in which countries can petrol and diesel run out first? And where do India-Pakistan stand in this list? Latest figures show that countries which have low reserves and high consumption are in real danger.

Why do oil reserves become power?

In today’s world, crude oil is not just a fuel but is the backbone of the economy. If there is even a slight stoppage in supply, prices go up and the impact falls directly on the pockets of the common man. For this reason, every country looks at its oil reserves as a protective shield.

Globally, there are more than 1.7 trillion barrels of proven oil reserves. According to the current consumption, they can last for about 47 to 50 years, but this is an average picture. The real story is hidden in the different circumstances of every country.

Which countries may run out of oil first?

Reserve-to-production ratio i.e. the ratio of reserves and production estimates how many years a country’s oil can last. In countries where production is high and reserves are low, oil can run out quickly.

If new sources are not found, earlier industry estimates for countries like Argentina, Indonesia and Mexico have suggested that their traditional oil reserves may be exhausted in about 10 to 12 years. Even the old reserves of big producing countries like China and Angola are considered limited. Pressure is also increasing on countries like Malaysia and Algeria.

Regarding the conventional oil reserves of United Kingdom and Italy in Europe, it is also estimated that these may decrease significantly in the coming 10 to 15 years. Australia has very little domestic reserves and fuel storage there is considered to be needed only for a few weeks, so it has to depend on imports.

However, it is important to keep in mind that depletion of oil reserves does not mean complete depletion, rather it means depletion of economically cheap and easily extracted oil.

At what position is India?

India is the third largest oil consumer in the world, but in terms of its reserves, India does not come among the top countries. The amount of proven oil reserves that India has is equal to about 2 to 3 years of its annual consumption.

India imports about 85 to 88 percent of its crude oil requirement from abroad. This is the reason why movements in the global market quickly impact India.

Recently, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told Parliament that India’s strategic petroleum reserves and other stocks combined can meet the country’s needs for about 74 days if there is a major disruption in supply. This means that India is not completely empty, but it will be difficult to go for a long time without imports.

situation of pakistan

Pakistan is said to have proven oil reserves of around 0.5 billion barrels and ranks very low in the global list of reserves. Compared to its annual consumption, its domestic reserves are only equal to about one to one and a half years.

Pakistan is also dependent on imports for crude oil and refined products. Apart from this, the domestic reserves of natural gas are also gradually decreasing, which are estimated to decrease in the next two decades, hence energy security remains a big challenge for Pakistan.
