The 8.8 magnitude earthquake on the Russian’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday (July 30, 2025) has shook the entire Pacific Ocean. The power of this earthquake was so much, which put a threat of tsunami in the Pacific Ocean and this is the threat of tsunami on 12 countries around, due to which the lives of millions of people are hanging in the balance. Let us tell you what is the story of the Pacific Ocean and Okhotsak Sagar, which can affect 12 countries of the world.

The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deep ocean in this world. It is spread over 165.25 million square kilometers, which has an average depth of 4,280 meters. This ocean is so vast that it connects Asia, Australia, North America and South America. At the same time, a small part of this ocean is Okhotsak Sagar, which is in its northwest part.

Where is Okhotsa Sagar?

This Okhotsa Sagar is spread over 1.58 million square kilometers, its average depth is 859 meters and maximum depth is 3,372 meters. It is surrounded by Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, Kuril Island, Hokkaido Island in Japan, Sakhalin Islands and coastal areas of Eastern Siberia. Apart from this, this ocean is connected to Japan Sea through La Paros Strait and Sakhalin Bay.

The Pacific Ocean is called the heart ,Okhotsak Sagar,

Okhotsa Sea is called the heart of the Pacific Ocean, as it sends oxygen, cold water and nutrients to the Pacific Ocean, this greatly promotes the sea life of the ocean. However, this area is especially known for seismic activities with its biological prosperity. 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes fall in this area. In such a situation, when the sea bottom is shaken due to earthquake, it produces tsunami waves.

What is the Pacific Ring of Fire?

There is a circle around the Pacific Ocean, where the Earth’s tectonic plates collide. The circle starts from Chile and extends to South America, Central America, Mexico, America’s west coast, Alaska, Japan, Philippines, New Guinea and New Zealand. This is called Pacific Ring of Fire. Of the earthquakes that occur in the world, 90 percent of them fall in this area. Okhotsa Sea is a part of this ring, which is very active seismic near the work and Kuril islands.

12 countries danger of devastation due to earthquake and tsunami

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said, “The earthquake of the Russian Tannak Peninsula was so powerful that it has released millions of people in all the people of all the countries of Russia, Japan, Hawaii, California, Alaska, Solomon Island, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Philippines, Guam, and New Zealand. Hangs in the balance.

A tsunami warning has been issued for the coastal areas of several countries in the Pacific Ocean, including China, Peru and Ecuador, after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday (30 July 2025) in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. This has increased concern in the entire Pacific Ocean region.

The center of this powerful earthquake was about 119 km from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamachtski, which is a city in Russia with a population of close to 1.8 lakhs. The earthquake includes Russia, Japan, America, Hawaii, California, Alaska, Solomon Islands, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Philippines, Guam and Northern Mariana Island and New Zealand.

Necessary steps taken after earthquake

The nuclear plant center in Japan was evacuated in Japan after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Kamchatka, Russia. How dangerous the tsunami is can be gauged from the fact that the 60 cm high tsunami waves are hitting the coast. At some places, its height has also been seen 15 feet. Waves are also colliding in California, USA. Apart from this, people living along the beach in Hawaii have also been advised to visit safe places. An order has also been issued to close the airport in Hawaii. At the same time, about 2 lakh 80 thousand people have been shifted to safe places in Shanghai, China.

Japan’s nuclear center vacant

No tsunami wave in New Zealand and Australia

Although no tsunami wave has been recorded in New Zealand and Australia so far, the administration has asked people not to go to the sea, do not do any activity towards the sea and keep an eye on radio, alert systems. New Zealand has strengthened the disaster system since the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and now a vigilance is being worked on the policy later.

How long will the threat of tsunami remain?

Tsunami waves are being recorded continuously in coastal countries of the Pacific Ocean. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) and Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) have said that the threat of tsunami may remain for the next 12 to 30 hours.

How dangerous can the effect of tsunami be?
The waves of tsunami causes havoc not only by height, but with speed and force. According to Hawaii Governor Josh Green, a 6 -inch (15 cm) wave can also drop a person. A wave of 2 feet (60 cm) can shed cars and motorcycles. A wave of 3 feet (90 cm) can drop to the fence, tree and street lights. The waves collide with the shore at a speed of 700 to 800 km/h.
