US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday (November 9) that the government shutdown that has been going on for more than 40 days is almost ending. CNN quoted a source as saying that this announcement came at a time when an agreement has been reached between the two parties in the Senate to finance the government till January 30. The Upper House is ready to vote on the Affordable Care Act bill in December.

Earlier in the day, Axios reported that Republicans have at least 10 Democratic votes to advance the revised funding package. According to CNN, the new Senate agreement includes a complete reversal of President Donald Trump’s decision to fire federal employees and also includes provisions to prevent such action in the future.

8 Democrats agree to vote
According to CNN report, this will also ensure that food stamp funds continue till fiscal year 2026. At least eight Democratic senators have agreed to vote for the deal, which was struck between three former governors, Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Angus King and Maggie Hassan, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and the White House.

The crisis may end in the next few days
If this bill is passed in the Senate, the amended bill will probably go to the House of Representatives again. It will then be sent to the White House for Trump’s signature, which could end the crisis in the next few days. Once signed, federal agencies will immediately resume full operations and furloughed employees will receive back pay owed under the Government Employee Fair Practices Act of 2013. Which will be paid in a few weeks.

Services like National Parks, IRS tax processing and passport issuance, which were closed since October 1, will reopen. However, due to pending work, refunds and approvals may be delayed for months, as happened during the 2018-2019 shutdown.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed his commitment to the two-language policy and appealed to the Center to issue a fund of more than Rs 2,100 crore of the state under the overall education scheme.

According to an official release issued on Sunday (July 27, 2025), in a memorandum submitted by the State Finance Minister Thangam Thenarasu to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, Stalin said that Tamil Nadu has clarified his contradictory views on the National Education Policy (NEP) -2020’s three-language formula.

Stalin persisted on Tamil and English formula

The state government has made it clear that it will stand on its decades-old two-language formula in Tamil and English. The Chief Minister has said in the memorandum that the future of millions of students is affected by not getting the necessary funds from the Center.

The press release said, “The Chief Minister has requested the Prime Minister to release the center of Rs 2,151.59 crore for the year 2024-25 and the first installment of 2025-26,”

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is hospitalized

Chief Minister Stalin was admitted to a private hospital after complaining of dizziness on 21 July and is undergoing treatment there. According to official sources, the memorandum sanctioned by him was submitted to the Prime Minister on Saturday. The Prime Minister is on a two -day visit to Tamil Nadu.

Demand to take steps for the release of fishermen

The Chief Minister also appealed to approval Coimbatore and Madurai metro rail projects along with other demands, which are proposed to implement the equal stake of the Center and the state. Other demands include the implementation of several railway projects and an increase in suburban rail services in Chennai.

Apart from this, Chief Minister Stalin raised the issue of repeated arrest of fishermen of the state and demanded a permanent solution to this problem. He has demanded to take steps for the release of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody.
