It also mentioned his memorable performances in ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘Main Hoon Na’ and many other memorable projects, which had made him a household name.

The appeal further reads, “Honoring him with the Padma Shri Award (posthumous) would be the most fitting tribute to a life dedicated to art, culture and service through entertainment. A tribute to a legend who made India laugh.” The federation concluded the letter by expressing confidence in the Prime Minister’s continued recognition of India’s cultural pioneers.
