Ban was banned in 2020
India banned 59 Chinese mobile apps in June 2020. These also included popular apps like Tiktok, WeChat and HELO. This decision was taken after the Indo-China clash in Galwan Valley.

Safety and data concern
The government had said that these apps are collecting the user’s data and can send it out of India. This is a threat to the sovereignty, security and public system of the country. This was the reason that they were banned under Section 69A of the IT Act.

Attempt to improve India-China relations
Although the ban continues on apps like Tiktok, India and China have recently taken several steps to improve relations. Three business routes on the border have been opened again – Lipulekh pass, Shipki La Pass and Nathu La Pass. Both countries have agreed to start direct flights and create a new air service agreement. It has also been agreed to make visa facility easier for tourists, businessmen, media and other passengers.
