Sources in the Government of India on Friday (August 22, 2025) said that no permission has been given to lift the ban on Tiktok. This statement came when some users claimed that they were able to visit Tiktok’s website. However, he was neither able to watch the video nor was it possible to download the app.

Ban was banned in 2020
India banned 59 Chinese mobile apps in June 2020. These also included popular apps like Tiktok, WeChat and HELO. This decision was taken after the Indo-China clash in Galwan Valley.

On the other hand, tickets or its parent company bytedens has not yet given any official statement on this matter. He has neither confirmed the return of the app nor has given the reason for the opening of the website.

Safety and data concern
The government had said that these apps are collecting the user’s data and can send it out of India. This is a threat to the sovereignty, security and public system of the country. This was the reason that they were banned under Section 69A of the IT Act.

Attempt to improve India-China relations
Although the ban continues on apps like Tiktok, India and China have recently taken several steps to improve relations. Three business routes on the border have been opened again – Lipulekh pass, Shipki La Pass and Nathu La Pass. Both countries have agreed to start direct flights and create a new air service agreement. It has also been agreed to make visa facility easier for tourists, businessmen, media and other passengers.

PM Modi’s visit to China
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in Tianjin, China from 31 August to 1 September. During this time, he is also expected to have bilateral meeting with leaders of many countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held this month. This will be PM Modi’s first visit to China after the clash between the forces of the two countries in Galwan, East Ladakh. The journey will be in view of efforts to improve bilateral relations from India and China.

PM Modi and Xi Jinping met last year

The SCO summit is to be held in China from 31 August to 1 September. The last meeting of PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping took place during the BRICS summit in Russia in October 2024. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, leaders from more than 20 countries and prominent SCOs of 10 international organizations will participate in the summit and related programs.

PM Modi will visit Japan before China

PM Modi will visit Japan before participating in the SCO conference to be held in China. PM Modi will attend the annual summit with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on 30 August. PM Modi had earlier visited China in 2019. Important issues like business cooperation, terrorism, regional security and multilateral cooperation will be discussed.

PM Modi is visiting China at a time when America is constantly threatening India to increase the tariff. US President Donald Trump has claimed that BRICS is weakening the country dollars.

Trump threatened BRICS countries

Trump said last month, “BRICS was established to harm us and weaken our dollar. If this group ever comes up in a strong way, it will end very soon. This group is now rapidly weakening. Stirring the status of dollar will be like losing a world war. We will not let the dollar fall.”

Relationships deteriorated after Galwan Valley

India lost 20 of its soldiers in a clash with Chinese soldiers on 15 June 2020 in the Galwan Valley of East Ladakh. During the Galwan clash, Indian soldiers retaliated without arms under the current protocol. In this, the Chinese army also suffered a lot of damage, but it never confessed to public damage. After this, relations between the two countries started deteriorating.
