Why is it considered taboo to bring Ganga water from Kashi? Know the spiritual secret, reverence and classical signs behind it. Every house has Ganga water, but not of Kashi, why?

The more ordinary this question looks, the more depth, emotional reverence and spiritual sensitivity is hidden behind it.

Ganga water: not only water, the holy stream of life

In Hinduism, Ganga water has been considered as nectar.

It is mandatory in worship, bath, tarpan, rituals and purification.

Ganga water brought from Haridwar, Rishikesh and Gangotri is a symbol of energy, health and positivity.

It is believed that this water washes sins and purifies the soul.

But when it comes to Kashi (Varanasi), this holy water is never brought home. Why?

Kashi: The land where death is also a celebration. According to Skanda Purana-
Kashyam death liberation:

It means death in Kashi, the door to salvation.

Kashi has been called the city of salvation, where the body does not burn at Manikarnika Ghat, but the soul is free. It is believed that at the time of death, Lord Shiva himself blows ‘Tarak Mantra’ in the ear of the deceased, which is the key to spiritual liberation.

Why does not Ganga water bring from Kashi?
This question is not only of tradition, but of spiritual understanding and reverence. The role of Manikarnika and Harishchandra Ghat. Everyday hundreds of dead bones and ashes are immersed in the mother Ganga. This Ganga now becomes not only a lifeline, but a witness to Mokshadayini souls.

Spiritual expression
It is believed that if the water brought from Kashi is in contact with the remains of a dead soul, it can become an inadvertent an obstacle in their salvation path. It is not a matter of ‘impunity’, there is a feeling of respect for those souls.

This is not a rule, but it makes it great

The Ganges of Haridwar, Rishikesh and Gangotri is for life.

But the Ganges of Kashi for a post -death life.

Therefore nothing is brought from Kashi, neither rakh, no water, nor memory.

From there, only Shiva’s blessings and spiritual peace are brought.

Not bringing Ganga water from Kashi is not a religious taboo, but an expression of humble reverence and spiritual sensation. It teaches us that when a soul is on its last journey, we should honorly become silent participants in it, not the interventionist.

FAQS
Q1: Is there any fault from bringing Ganga water from Kashi?
No, this is not a fault, but it is associated with spiritual respect that we do not disruption in the path of souls growing towards salvation.

Q2: Is this rule applicable only to Kashi?
Yes, Kashi is especially considered to be the city of salvation, so this recognition is limited to Kashi.

Q3: What to do if someone has inadvertently brought Ganga water home from Kashi?
Flow that water devoutly in a holy water and pray for forgiveness to Shiva.

Chaitra navratri 2025: The Jhandewalan Devi temple located near Karol Bagh in Delhi is a symbol of unwavering reverence and faith of the devotees. This temple is famous not only in Delhi, but all over India.

Especially during Navratri, the view here is very grand and devotional. Thousands of devotees gather here to see the mother, many of which also come from far-flung areas and abroad.

Historical significance of the temple
The history of Jhandewalan Temple has been associated with the 18th century. It is said that a businessman, Badri Das, saw the mother’s mother in a dream. After this, he got excavated here, from which the idol of the goddess was obtained. After this, a grand temple was built at this place, which still remains an important pilgrimage to the devotees.

Special event in Navratri
The temple is decorated grandly during Navratri. Mother’s court is beautified with flowers, colored lights and traditional decorations. Colorful flowers are adorned in the basket, and the decoration of the mother’s court is attractive.

Vinod Prasad, the priest of Jhandewalan temple, tells in a conversation with ABP News that on the first day of Navratri, Kalash Pujan, Chaitra Maa is worshiped and bathed with Ganga water. Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana, which is also called Kalash installation.

According to the almanac, this year Chaitra Navratri will start from March 30 and will run till 6 April. On the first day of Navratri, Ghatasthapana is done, in which Kalash is anointed with worship, chanting and Ganga water. Every day various forms of Goddess are worshiped, from which devotees experience special spiritual energy and peace.

Long queues of devotees can be seen from morning to visit the temple. Many devotees stand in line from 4 am and after waiting for about two hours, they are able to see the mother. About one kilometer long queue is launched outside the temple complex. However, special arrangements have been made by the administration for the convenience of devotees, so that no one has any inconvenience. Devotees can see the mother for about 30-40 seconds, after which they have to move forward. But even in this short time, devotees have a deep experience of the presence of Goddess.

Sreets of devotees
Devotees visiting Jhandewalan temple reach here with their wishes. Many devotees believe that mother fulfills all their wishes. A father got his son present in Dubai through video calls and said that this auspicious occasion of Navratri is very important for Hindu society. Another devotee said, “The mind became happy to see the grandeur of the court of Mother. The system here is also very good, due to which the philosophy is being done easily. Every time the mother has asked, the mother has given it. It is just a prayer that the mother should fill everyone’s bag with happiness.”

How to reach the temple?
The temple is located in the middle of Delhi, so it is quite easy to reach here. Devotees can descend at Jhandewalan station of the blue line of Delhi Metro and reach the temple by walking or auto. Apart from this, a bus or private vehicle can also be easily arrived here.

Message to devotees in Navratri
Jhandewalan Devi temple is not only a place of worship, but also a symbol of reverence, faith and power. This is a special occasion to get the grace of Mother during Navratri, when every devotee prays for the prosperity of his life at her feet.

Those who come to see the mother, they carry spiritual peace and energy from here. This is the reason that Jhandewalan Devi Temple has remained the center of faith for centuries and will remain in future also.
