The Delhi High Court said on Tuesday (September 23, 2025) that a person who is in politics should be ‘thick skin’ (tolerating criticism), but will have to differentiate between satire and defamation. Justice Amit Bansal made this comment while hearing an application of BJP leader and senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia.

In the petition, Bhatia has demanded the removal of ‘derogatory’ content from social media about her dress in a television news program earlier this month. In the program, he was allegedly seen wearing a kurta of ‘without pants/pajama’.

Violation of Gaurav Bhatia’s privacy

The lawyer appearing for Bhatia told the court that he was wearing ‘shorts’ and the cameraman accidentally showed the lower part of his body. He claimed that social media posts related to the incident violate Bhatia’s privacy and objectionable comments should be removed.

The judge said that the court should take great care while passing a unilateral injuries and the hearing of the case was fixed for September 25. The judge said, ‘We have to be very careful. The Supreme Court has said that unilateral order should not be passed in such cases. We have to be very careful.

‘It is necessary to have a thick skin in politics’

The lawyer argued that the picture was ‘taken under privacy’ and it should not have been broadcast without their consent. He said, ‘This is a violation of my (Bhatia) privacy. I was sitting in the privacy of my house. Such pictures cannot be broadcast without my consent.

To this, the judge said, “They did not forcibly enter your house.” The judge said, ‘When you are in politics, you will have to be a thick skin. We have to find out what is sarcastic and what is derogatory. Therefore, at the moment we have to distinguish objectionable and sarcastic comments. However, the judge said that pornographic comments would have to be removed.

Why increased controversy?

In fact, this entire controversy started on Sunday when Tejashwi Yadav while addressing the ‘Waqf Bachao, Save the Constitution’ rally held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna made a sharp statement on the Waqf Act implemented by the Central Government. He said that the current government in Bihar is on the path of being out of power. If a government of opposition parties is formed in the state, then the Waqf will throw the law in the dustbin. BJP is an attacker on Tejashwi Yadav about this.

Gaurav Bhatia told Tejashwi Maulana

After Tejashwi Yadav’s statement, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia made a direct attack in a press conference in Delhi on Tuesday. He said, “Tejashwi Yadav wants to make this country an Islamic country. These Sharia law wants to implement. Maulana Tejashwi Yadav does not know the constitution. RJD is not going to come to power in the next 50 years in Bihar. Ambedkar ji is revered for us. Tejashwi Yadav and Lalu Yadav do communal politics. Hindu and Muslim politics are doing communal politics.”
