Geo News Ban: A major crackdown has been seen on media in Pakistan. The Government of Pakistan has suspended the TV license and broadcast of Geo News, one of the country’s largest news channels, for 15 days. The government says that such scenes were shown in a program of the channel, which hurt religious sentiments. Further investigation has also been started in this matter.

15 day ban on geo news
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), which works under the Government of Pakistan, issued an order at midnight suspending the TV license and broadcasting of Geo News for 15 days.

Allegation of hurting religious sentiments
PEMRA’s order states that Geo News, in its program “Safar-e-Ishq” aired on Friday morning, showed some scenes which hurt religious sentiments. On this basis this action has been taken against the channel.

The matter was sent to the Regulatory Council for investigation
PEMRA has referred the matter to the Regulatory Council for further legal action. After investigation, further action will be taken as per the law of Pakistan. The regulatory authority has instructed Geo News to conduct an internal investigation into the entire matter at its own level. The channel has been asked to review the broadcast of the program and the facts related to it and submit a report.

action taken after complaint
According to the information, this action was taken after the complaint of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith chief Ibtisham Zaheer. Ibtisham Zaheer is also said to be an old associate of terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Muhammad Saeed. After receiving the complaint, Pakistan government took this action against Geo News.
