SCO Summit 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an important meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The two leaders welcomed the “positive atmosphere” in bilateral relations since the previous meeting in Kazan in October 2024 and clarified that India and China are evidence companions, not rival.

Collaboration on strategic autonomy and global issues
Prime Minister Modi said that both India and China follow their strategic autonomy and their relations should not be seen from the perspective of a third country. The two leaders also discussed increasing cooperation on global issues like terrorism and fair trade.

Prime Minister Modi supported China’s SCO chairmanship and invited President Xi for the 2026 BRICS summit in India. Xi accepted the invitation and assured to support India’s chairmanship.
